You can get just about everything you need from them; their schematics linked to their catalog makes it easy to find what you need/want.

It would, but dollar for dollar you can't beat a new RIA, G.I. or Tacticle.
I wanted to build a 1911 lower but found it far more cost effective to buy a whole new RIA and I got a dandy.
Then you can tinker with it all you want.

if you want to build your own for the sense of accomplishment or to get a unique configuration not available other wise go ahead. it will NOT save you any money over buying a gun already made.

This.  I was going to do it years ago, and ended up with a Springfield GI that I can tinker with however I want to.

Buy the Kuhnhausen books and read them front to back twice.
