I am pretty new to 1911's and wanted advice on which would be a good first 1911. I am looking to spend around $500 to $700 dollars. These are one ive been looking at
Ruger SR1911
Kimber Custom II
Remington R1
Sprinfield Mil-Spec
Im leaning towards the Ruger, any other suggestions?

R1 or Mil-Spec. I'd pick the R1

With your budget, I'd buy a RIA tac for $430 and use the rest of your budget for ammo and simple custom parts. If you can afford another $100 in your budget, this Sig is an excellent gun Sig at AIM .

Edit: if you just plan on cutting paper with it, a SA Range Officer or STI Spartan would be a great place to start.

I love the SA's.  However, I recently came across a Metro Arms that is great.  It is less than your range.

Of the brands you listed, the Ruger would be my first choice because of features and series 70 style design.  The Mil-Spec would be my second choice.

The Ruger has a wait time, but I think you would be very happy with it. It's a lot of gun for the money, and it's made in the USA! Internet videos look good. They just can't keep up with demand right now.
