I bought a stainless Valor a few weeks back. I have shot it around 400 rounds so far. I tell you this gun is just boring reliable to shoot. It shoots WWB where you point it, never jams, mag after mag. It is a vast improvement over any colt that I ever owned. I can't see how any upper end pistol could be better. Anyone else have one and have this experience? The only bad thing about this, is now I want a black one to go with it |
|
I wouldn't get a black one. If you plan on changing your existing Valor, get that finished, then get it Hardhatted black from Severns custom.
That's what I plan on doing. That bead blasted finish won't last long on the stainless. It gets worn smooth, looks like scratches. Mine looks like it's been through WWIII. That gun was meant to be reblasted refinished in a hard melonite when you were done modding it. No point in making people buy the expensive $300 duty coat treatment if we're just going to hack the safety, undercut the trigger guard, cut serrations in the top of the slide and back of the slide, etc.etc. I'm changing my sights, and I cut the thumb safety paddle down a bit. I'm considering undercutting the trigger guard myself and flushing the back of the slide. But I may skip that. Been a fun build so far. Yesterday I added a V cut to the grip safeties blocking part so that I can remove the grip safety after the thumb safety, without rmoving the mainsring housing pin or housing, to check/lube the guts of the pistol and make sure no carry lint or sand is in there messing things up. I sensitized my grip safety quite a bit a while ago. I allready spent some time stoneing the sides of the guts a bit smoother, some finishing touches that the factory deson't get to do. Not that any of that was truely needed. If my day sight setup goes in well, and I get this thing refinished nice, t his gun will be in Ed Brown territory. How tight is yours? |
|
Mine is fairly tight, nothing like some of the new Baer pistols. I am not a fan of the front slide serrations. I like the clean, no safety warning bullshit, look of the Valor. You told me a month or so back that this was the gun to get, and you were right. I have not taken it apart yet, I take some slip 2000 with me and give the rails a little shot on each. Not one hiccup, issue since taken out of the box. I do use the Wilson 47 mags, they are so smooth. Best .45 that I ever owned. |

I just got mine last week and haven't shot it yet. The only thing I'm planning on changing is the thumb safety. I'm a lefty and need the ambi version. I'm guessing the Ed Brown extended safety is the same size as the stock version. After that I'll eventually get the hardhat treatment from Severns. I'm thoroughly impressed with the value of this 1911. This is my first true 1911 and I think I made a great pick. |

I wish I could say I've got stone cold reliability with my 1911... but I can't. I wouldn't trust mine to weigh papers down because it would fail me... piece of shit Taurus. I know the feeling. My first 1911 was a Springfield and it made me loose faith in the 1911 platform. I hope to have a Valor soon........ |

Hey, I was in your shoes several times, always liked the platform, but never had a gun out of the box that worked. I bought one of the first Kimbers. It would always jam a few times, was told it needed this, needs a Wilson mag, needs polished, etc, sold that pig. I played with plastic guns for years. Then I found the Valor, I was afraid to buy it at first, remembering those earlier adventures with my other 1911's. This gun worked right out of the box, I carefully wiped out the bore with a plastic rod and some Hoppes 9, oiled it lightly with slip 2000. I have shot 400 rounds or so through it in the last few weekends. (never taken it apart) I do oil it lightly after 50 to 60 rounds. This gun will shoot point of aim and has not missed a beat. Make sure you buy a 2011 model was what I was told, I did and it has been a good one. |

I think the Ed Brown Ambi safety would be the best one to get. The paddle is about a mm lower than the Valor paddle which is nice. But the paddle is huge. I trimmed most of the rear of the paddle off on my EB safety that I put on my Kimber. I think the trigger is a Greider. Looks very similar to the one in the Brownells catalog. |
| Love my Valor. It is my first and only 1911. As I have gotten older I've learned I would rather just save longer and get exactly what I want than get something sooner and still wish for something else. I love my Valor. Point, shoot, bang right on target every time. |

there was a video posted of Dave Severns shooting a bunch of high end guns, iirc. whoever it was, the valor shot the best.
i've never had a bad 1911. ever. they've all run well and short well and all have been springers. of course, none have run as well as my valor! |

Damn, do they drop the ejection port to a full 375 thousandths? Nice pistol, supposed to be as good as other semi-custom guns like Wilson. Yes the ejection window is huge, even bigger than my Kimbees by about another mm or two. And it's a cool looking squared shape. |
