| I'm just getting into 1911s. I have a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec. I swapped out the spur hammer for a used one off of a Kimber Warrior and the Warrior hammer was hitting the grip safety so I ordered this from Brownells because it says it fits the SA frame contour. But it doesn't come close to fitting. Can someone help me out on which grip safety to get, or will any grip safety require fitting? Thanks in advance. |

I believe Smith & Alexander makes a "drop in" safety which is not that one that you ordered. The drop in ones will fit but they will look wierd because of the GI style end of the frame, there will be a gap but it will work.
That one you have will require a jig to cut down the frame which will look better but it take some courage to make that first cut into the frame... |

No drop-in beavertail looks good. The Smith and Alexander will work but there will still be a gap. If you want a beavertail with a nice fit and zero heartache you are better off sending it to Springfield Armory to have them install and fit. Have faith, I had an Ed Brown installed on my Kimber TLE by Kimber. SA Custom Shop is very good and their prices are too. Brownells is great. You can either contact SA and ask if the beavertail you purchased will work and send it with your gun; or send the part back to Brownells for a full refund. Either way you're good.

Quoted: Thanks guys. Any idea on cost of the work from SA? They have a price list on their site. http://www.springfield-armory.com/custom.php |
