I have a 1911 that is dead on for me.
Accuracy is great. Even used it a few times in competitions.

Currently have a suppressor.

My concern is even if I purchase a threaded barrel from a quality place, the accuracy won't be the same when not using the suppressor.

My one option is to leave it alone and buy another 1911 that comes with a threaded barrel.

Yeah, I know. Can't really argue against getting another 1911, but cash is tight.

Is the concern about losing my tack driver simply for a threaded barrel a valid concern?

If you get a quality barrel and it gets properly fitted to your 1911 by a good gunsmith, you should have no problems.

Kart, Wilson, Nowlin, Bar-Sto would all be good barrels,  Get it threaded, crowned and then have it fitted properly.  May require a new bushing as well, but then you should still get good accuracy.

I thought the barrels were essentially a plug and play sort of deal.
Is the 1911 the exception?

Nothing is really plug and play on a 1911.....

This all seems like good justification to go ahead and buy a 1911 that already has a threaded barrel.

every time you put ANY new replacement part in a 1911 there its the potential for improper fit, change in reliability or accuracy. The 1911 is most definitely NOT plug and play. You could have a spare threaded barrel fitted to your existing set up and only put it in when you plan to suppress, leaving the tack driving barrel in the gun the rest of the time. The skilled gunsmith is not going to "cut" on your slide or frame to make a new barrel fit- he will mod the barrel to fit your slide and frame dimensions, leaving no dimensional changes for your other barrel to deal with when getting swapped back and forth.

This.

Even if it's a "drop-in" barrel...it isn't (won't).
