I'll be picking up a springfield mc operator soon. One of my buddies has one but it's locked up in an evidence room. I don't remember him ever having problems with it but it's been a couple years since we've seen it. Anything i should know? It's a nm prefix gun and seems pretty smooth. Are the front straps checkered under the wraparound grips?

I've had one for about a month now and I like it a lot.

The front strap is not checkered.

Not checkered, I believe all should be NM serial #'d.  Really can't go wrong!!

So besides the grips, color, front strap checkering, and magwell, what is the difference between this and the trp? I've always wanted a trp but every time a local dealer gets one it's either stainless or has target sights.

Just something to think about, The Railed TRP has a Bull Barrel, Adjustable Rear sight, 20lpi checkering and a magwell.  The MC Operator has a standard GI Setup with barrel and bushing, fixed Night Sights and no magwell or 20lpi checkering.

I own both and the MC Operator is my favorite, for the difference in price I would get the MC Operator and send it to Springfield for the Machine 20lpi and swap out the ILS MSH for a magwell with no ILS. Then you are at the same price give or take as a TRP but in my opinion a better barrel set up and a fixed rear sight. Others opinion might be different then mine.

For the record, my TRP has had the bull barrel swapped out for a Storm Lake barrel with EGW bushing. The Rear sight has also been replace with a fixed sight.

The MC Operator is widely thought of as the pinnacle of the Loaded series. Their construction and parts fit is almost on par with the TRP models.

If you don't have $1500 to buy a new (or $1200 for a used) TRP, the MC Operator is the best thing Springfield offers around the $1000 pricepoint.

Matter of fact, even if you found a railed TRP for $1,000, I'd still take a new MC Operator over it based on the rear sight and barrel configuration alone.
