| TRP or TLE...Springfield or Kimber? WHich is the best of these two? |
Even if everything was the same(fit, finish, price), I'd go with Springfield everytime. Why pay for a product whose company only stands by that product for a year? Springfield will stand behind that TRP for LIFE. Plus stories I've heard of SA's customer service are amazing. If/when I buy another 1911, it will be another Springer to go with my GI Champ. Unless I get a killer deal on a VBOB or can find a 10mm CBOB.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but i thought I would share my experience. For several years I never subscribed to the Kimber vs Springfield debate. I had multiple weapons from each manufacturer and loved them all. There is actually a thread in this sub-forum when I finally got a full rail TRP Operator, where I took a picture of the TRP with my Warrior. About 6 months ago, I had 3 Kimber 1911s (Warrior, SIS, Custom TLE II). After buying the SIS brand new, I had an extractor break which damaged several internal parts after 14 months and only 1k rounds. I call Kimber and they are explainging to me what they can do about it, yada-yada. After giving them the Serial# and other info, they find out that I have had the weapon for 12+ months, or longer than their 1-year warranty (which I wasn't aware of at this time). I was shut down, couldn't get a returned phone call, passed from everyone from their Sales VP to the damn night Janitor. I even offered to pay the labor charges at Kimber Custom Shop if they would supply the parts. Negative, nothing was done. Needless to say, 2 weeks later I had sold all 3 of my Kimber pistols and never intend on owning one again. Do problems happen? Sure, I'm not oblivious or ignorant of that. But I refuse to stand behind a company that won't stand behind their product, much less their clientele. I expect to have much better craftsmanship and pride in a product that I pay $1500-ish for. We're talking semi-custom 1911 $$$ range. With all that being said, I have 5 SA 1911s (3 of which are TRPs, which I think are the top of the scale in terms of production pistols) and I have never had a single issue with any of them. 13k rounds through my most used piece. I am so confident in both the tool and the manufacturer that I am starting the process of having their Custom Shop build me a Custom Professional. YMMV. ETA: I also want to mention that I have pistols from other manufactueres, including: Smith and Wesson, STI, Rock Island and Colt. I didn't want anyone to wave the "fanboy" flag, though I am a fan of SA. |

I have however read a couple stories where Kimber has stepped up and taken care of similar situations. It's a crap shoot though. So far, there's nothing in Kimber's lineup that I've coveted enough to roll those dice. I'm not much of a gambling man and I prefer a sure thing.

I HAD, 3 Kimbers, two went back for repairs in under a month, and under 500 rounds, one of those two went back twice for the same problem. I now own no more Kimbers, nor would I rely on one to save my life. Each episode dealing with Kimber was terrible, I swaer, they were trying to put me off on the CDP until the warrenty ran out, it was the one that went back twice. I also own Colt, Springfield, Wilson, Nighthawk, and a Remington

I believe Springfield was eliminated right off the bat because they have a 70 series style firing system. Get the Springfield. I have never owned a Kimber, but I have never had a problem with my TRP. Very happy with it. eta....
