How do you identify your magazines ?
I've tried the Paint Pens and the paint wears off pretty quickly from magazines landing on the ground. Game I play does not permit bumpers on magazines. Thanks. |

Remove the baseplate and punch/stamp whatever ID you need into the plate... you might be able to do it without disassembly but I'd worry about distorting the whole magazine. Grainger/McMaster and various machine-shop/tool supply places have decent letter and number sets.
Alternatively, use a little electric engraving tool (those little buzzy-type engravers are pretty cheap)... no disassembly required. Rather permanent solutions, but maybe that's what you want/need. Either one could then be painted, the paint in the imprints would last a while and be very visible. |

this might be a stupid question, but if you have 5 usgi mags, what are you labeling them? hollow point? m855 etc? Usually your name and a number to keep track of the mags. It's not uncommon to misplace a mag or two when shooting matches. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff35/kemays/mags.jpg Dont mean to hijack the thread,...Nice pistols Ken, are you shooting 9mm or .38 super in your comp Infinity??...I am considering dropping from .45 to a new 1911 in 9 for IPSC.. |

I use a white out pen on my competition mags. Holds up for a couple months of training and I reapply. |

Those are both .40 for Limited division. The blue one also sees some IDPA use as well. |

I've had real good luck with a marker. It's a Piolt extra fine tip Gold marker, part # 41500.
It lasts for a long time. You can also use a address label and then use some clear package tape over it, I have had good luck with that also. I use the marker to number my mags and I use the address label for my name. |

It also greatly helps identify a mag that may be giving you problems. This is exactly why I label my magazines. After I labeled them I learned the only ones that were garbage in my gun was the 1 and only Kim-Pro magazine I owned in a mix of 47D's, McCormick's, Kimber 7 rounders, and Springfield mags. I gave the Kim-Pro to my brother. Labeling mags is a great idea for this and for the reasons others above have noted. |
