I recently received a beautiful SA TRP AK from my wonderful wife for my b-day. I have about 600 flawless rounds through the gun right now, both ball and Federal HST HP. The only issues I've had so far is that it doesn't like Chip McCormick mags.
What was happening is that the mag follower would jump over the slide release tab inside the gun not letting the slide lock open after the last round and making it necessary to strip the mag out because it would not drop free. Initially I thought it was a problem with the mags and have since then been using Wilson ETMs without any problems. I have noticed, however, that there is a bit of side to side play in the slide release lever. Once I push the lever in to the right until it seats, I can then push it back over to the left about 1/16 of an inch until the tab contacts the inside of the frame. I tried this same push test on my SA GI model and there is almost no side to side movement in that gun. I am wondering if this play is normal for a TRP or any other 1911 and whether or not this could be the reason the Chip McCormick mags were jumping the release tab? I will probably call SA on Monday to see if they will send me another slide release without having to ship the entire gun back to them but in the mean time I'd like to hear others opinion on this matter. |

hmm i was going to suggest that the Chip mag springs were causing it bc they were new and the springs were probably pushing the follower up too far. I had this issue initially with my Chip 10rnd mags. I kept them loaded for a few days and havent had any issues since.
the play in the slide stop isnt normal for a TRP, none in mine |
| Swap your slide catches and see if the one from you GI works better in the other pistol. If it does, your original slide stop may be defective. But they are not expensive and are easy to replace. I prefer the Wilson Combat bullet proof models anyway. I replaced a defective slide stop on a Colt with one of those. |

The slide stop is being held in by the plunger... look at your plunger tube on the left side of your frame, and see whats happening when you move your slide stop. Do what a previous poster said and swap the slide release from your GI to your TRP. If there is no movement then your TRP slide release is defective. This would be a product I would replace anyway as the previous poster said with a Wilson bullet proof one. If it doesn't fix the problem then send it to Springfield. They pay shipping both ways and their turn around is pretty quick. They will make your pistol perfect. |
