I took my Colt Anniversary model ANVIII out last Saturday.  I'm new to owning 1911s.  I only put 4-5 mags through (I thought I had a full box, but forgot I'd burned some in my buddy's Kimber).  The gun was dead nuts accurate (despite the minascule sights).  Wherever I wanted a hole in the paper, a hole would appear.

I had one round fail to feed, and it was on the last round.  It didn't terribly surprise me, because as I loaded the mags, the first round would catch on a nub protruding from the middle of the follower.  It appeared the rim of the last round got caught on the bump.  It happened while a friend who is new to shooting was firing; are 5" 1911s susceptible to limp-wristing?  And would a limp-wrist induce a FTF instead of a FTE?

I asked my buddy with the Kimber about the follower; he said none of his mags have the bump.  Is this something that was part of the original design, where the 1918 replica has it, but modern ones don't?

I bought the pistol for range use only and to start as an heirloom kind of thing, so I'm not really concerned about perfect reliability.  I also suspect as tight as the pistol seems to be fitted, break-in might be needed.  I keep forgetting to take a picture of the follower, but I managed to Google a picture that illustrates it (the top/right one):

Every USGI (and Colt marked) 7 rounder I have, has this raised dimple.
No Colt 8 rounder (shooting star) or my Wilsions (47?) have the dimple.

Dimple is good.

It holds the last round in the magazine in the proper place when the spring tension is at it's weakest.  This in turn prevents your extractor claw from having to snap over the cartridge rim when the last round gets out early. . . Thus extending the life of your extractor, and helping to maintain the proper function of the system.  It's actually a pretty important part in my view.

All of my range mag's have the dimple with two exceptions, Tripp Research flex followers, which seem to work very well despite their lack of dimple.
