So I recently got word at work that I am getting promoted to the full time range officer position with my department. Because of this I am going to reward myself with a Wilson Combat 1911 that I have wanted since I was 16.
The purpose of the gun will be my off duty carry piece. The gun I want is a CQB Compact with the following options: Armor-Tuff, Black Frame / Black Slide Round-Butt Extra De-Horn for Carry Countersink Slide Stop Serrated Slide Top Starburst Grips, Black Crowned barrel Front Sight, Fiber Optic, Red or front night sight (I am still debating this) Grip Screws, Torx Head, Armor-Tuff Is there anything that I have in here that stands out as something that shouldn't go together? Any less common options I have forgotten? My second question is about engraving. I couldn't find anything on Wilson's site about engraving options, but I know that a lot of people have it done. Does anyone know about what it costs to order it with basic engraving? I plan on calling them soon, but I am working nights right now and won't have a chance to call until a later date. I want to have my badge number (3 digits) engraved on the slide to match the script/font of the "Wilson Combat." Thanks. |

couple of things.
I love my fiber optic front sight, but you cannot see it at night. They make a sight that has a fiber optic instert and a tritium insert under it, so the sight glows. But honestly at night, I tried to see and realized if I didn't have enough light to see the sight, I could not make out the target. so maybe that didn't help. lol. The counter sunk slide stop is really only necessary if you use the crimson trace grips. Never really understood it otherwise. However if you decide to go that route, have them round the end instead of leaving it flat. |

All my issued guns have night sights, but my backup and competition guns have FO. I am leaning towards night sights, as a better to have an not need than need and not have. My duty and backup guns all have Crimson Trace laser grips. So even though I do not want them on this gun yet, I may change my mind at some point and want the option if I need it. Plus I really like the look of the chamfered slide stop hole. Thanks |

I'd get a rear sight with a ledge style, like the 10-8. Go tritium front. I'd also look at the undercut frame option, no ambi controls, and a naked slide. I was going to post this same thing |

I believe Wilson charges $100 for the engraving. I contacted them while I was looking for a commemorative pistol for my deployment and I believe that is the price they quoted me. I will have to look it up to make sure and get back to you.
I like the flattened and serrated slide top because it effectively increases the apparent height of the front sight. I'm also a fan of the ledge style rear sights. Just my .02 cents.
EDIT: I checked my e-mail. It is $100, and you need to provide the design for them in an adobe format. |

Narc,
I just got my WC order. A Wilson CQB Compact SS. One option you might consider that I did not realize was available until it was too late is the flat recoil spring set up for the 4" WC cone barrels. The flat spring is supposed to have a much longer spring life which is good especially in the compact/4" models. I am not sure if they have to be flush mount to the front of the slide however the pics of the guns I have seen with the flat wire set up have the barrel and recoil spring plug flush. I do not like the flush mount look. I did get the recessed barrel crown. It looks great. So does the recessed slide stop. Oh, I like the black, plain U notch rear sight and gold bead FS combo. YMMV. Last, get the Bullet Proof upgrade package. Good luck. I think you'll like it. |
