New pistol? Is is possible someone decided to clean crud out of the serrations with a steel screwdriver or something? ETA: RIF, that's pretty bad out of the box, but i can see how a QC check might accidentally overlook it. I doubt SA will give you a hard time of getting the issue corrected. |

Are the marks shiny or were they beadblasted over like the rest of the finish? That should tell you whether it was the prior owner or like that from the milling. No, scratches or mars are beaded the same color....they are not fresh,,I know the pic does not show it real well. |
| However much I like SA, this seems to be a recurring theme of quality control. Both my TRP and EMP have similar marks. My best guess is a dull blade or someone without a lot of experience doing the cuts. Call them up, they will probably have you send back in the pistol to be touched up. |

Dull cutter it sounds like then. Olympic Arms had a dull drill bit in one of their mills once and did a run of 50+ uppers with fuct up ejection port rod holes. It's like a 8" long drill bit that wanderer all over and drilled random holes in the rear ear of the ejection port tab. QC= replacing your mill attachments occassionally. I picked a couple of those stripped uppers for $25 |

Yea, I could see it if it were a $500 pc...but should not be on a TRP, or any 1911 of this caliber and price point....I sell military hardware, and if one screw has a blemish on it, they reject the whole lot. I know "stuff" gets thru QC...but these marks are in all locations on the slide...unacceptable in my book.
Calling SA today....let you know what they say... |

Yeah, me too, I only have 2 other 1911's Kimber and Dan Wesson, they are both perfect...however with another new arrival tomorrow of a Colt Commander Lightweight Centennial, but I would bet the gun, there are no marks like on this Springer...and interesting so far the only guns mentioned here with anything like this,..are Springers...hmmm..

So, my new Colt came in today,....serrations perfect.... http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/5108/coltcmndr.jpg My XSE Commander looks good like yours, although I did polish the high flats of the serrations to give it a different look. ETA: Yours looks great with the beaver tail. Mine has the platypus GS, which I'll change....... |

Well what did SA say? Those tooling marks would not brother me on a used or new gun purchase in that price point. I talked to Roxanne friday and sent her the pics, ..she was sending them to Drew in the custom shop...probably monday. Everyone I have shown this to in person (one a gunny) after seeing the workmanship of the gun overall(excellent), are shocked this was shipped. Its like buying a new car with a scratch on four fenders, ok yes it drives fine, and doesn't affect performance... uh gee I take it...and pay full price... At what price does one "not" accept poor workmanship?.. $1200..$1500...everyone has their threshold of pain, I suppose to each his own... ..Anal1 |

a- what did you use to polish the flats?? Started with 400# then 600# emory cloth wrapped around a small metal ruler. Used WD40 for lubricant. A couple of them were stubborn and I used a small needle file first. While I had the file out I smoothed the front and rear edges of the slide. Go slow. Take your time........... a-bare ETA: keep in mind I polished the high flats. To get in those grooves to clean up the low parts will be a somewhat more daunting task...........I'd go for it. |

SA would not do anything about it,...quote from Email...................... "I called over and talked with the technician and the tool marks are normal and will be visible on anything other than Custom guns". (first response) I received the same answer from above, the tooling marks are one of the things that separate the TRP’s from the Custom Guns. Tooling marks are part of the production process, let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. (third response) |
