I am looking to get another 1911 for my collection. This will be a home defense gun, so my main priority is to get one with a rail so that I can mount a light. I would also like to get one with night sights. I prefer full size government models, so that being said, here are some of the guns I have been looking at below in no particular order. I would like everyone's opinion as to likes/dislikes of the ones chosen. Please be specific so that I can make an informed decision as to which one to get. I should also mention that I'm trying to keep price at around $1500 or less.

Doublestar Combat Pistol
Sig Sauer Tactical Operations
ATI Thunderbolt
Springfield TRP
Taurus PT1911B-1
Colt Rail Gun (1980RG)
S&W E-Series (SW1911TA)
STI Duty One
Kimber Tactical Entry 2
Para 14.45 Tactical

You can get everything but the $1500 price tag with this guy.  Not bad to get 13+1 out of a home defense gun in .45!

If you're set on a single-stack, I'd pick the Colt rail gun.

Reason: forged slide & frame, US made, not stuffed with a bunch of shit parts, has a real beavertail, and you can get your money back out of it if you ever resell it.

Series 80 safety is not preferred but something I can live with.

That all being that, I personally feel that 9 rounds of .45 is not a limitation I want in a home defense pistol.

Colt all the way- Isee NO need for night sights on a light gun once you turn the light on you can not see the glowing dots any way

Just in case the light goes down, I still like to have night sights.  It doesn't hurt anything to have them.

Out of those choices, I like the Colt or the TRP.  You can't go wrong with either one, so I'd see which one you can find a deal on (good luck)

Then you need some retraining on how to use your light.

Just throwing this out there.

A rail mounted light is damn handy, no argument there but I use a hand held surefire as I don't like pointing my gun at something to see what is is.

Not saying either method is right or wrong, just something to think about.

Yep...you don't leave your light on, that's basic training in night courses.

Thanks for everyone's input. Sounds like everyone likes Colt. I was leaning towards that one as one of my top picks, since it is the only one with centennial commemorative markings. If it is in stock, I should have it in a couple of weeks.

Yes, Colt koolaid is strong

Colt and springfield TRP are both good guns.

I am looking for the Combat Elite. Can't find one now for a reasonable price. I did find some SS Rail guns. I considered it, then decided I would rather have the Combat. That rail gun is pretty nice though.  Black rail guns are shipping this month. One of the guys who works for colt and posts on a 1911 forum said those and delta's, and the Anniversary guns are shipping this month.

Cool, black is my color. Can't wait. No, really, I can't wait. Just received word from my dealer saying that he can't find one of these anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions on where to find one? I am calling Colt tomorrow to see if and when they are shipping these.
