| I bought a used SA GI 1911A1 last weekend and had a couple of misfires. Both times the primer had been struck but did not go off. I re-chambered the rounds and they both fired. It was Blazer aluminum cased 230 grain FMJ ammo. I know some people hate Blazer ammo, but I have fired thousands of rounds before with no problems until then. Also, whoever had the gun before me installed a EMC wide spur hammer. If it is a gun issue, what would the likely source be? Mainspring? The trigger pull is horrible, really hard. No other malfunctions occurred with the other 98 rounds of Blazer nor the twenty or so 230 grain Gold Dots I fired. |
| The first thing I did when I got home was strip it and check the firing pin channel. There was a lot of gunk in there. The pistol looked like it had hardly been fired, but it has been fired enough for some thick crap to collect in the channel. Obviously the spring was gunked up as well. I blasted it and the channel with brake parts cleaner to strip the crud off. I'm going to try to shoot some more this weekend to see if it happens again. |
