i am new to this site but i have been perusing allot of the posts and you all can be harsh to new guys haha, but i have a question. i am new to the 1911, i just bought a S&W 1911 pd, and kimber slide conversion to go along with it
so i take it to the ranger yesterday and take the slide off by charging the weapon , and while the slide was back pulling out the slide catch, and then sliding it off this way to put off the kimber conversion on, is this wrong? so now my problem is that i am trying to just slide the slide back on and put the pin back in but its path is blocked each time, i am getting frustrated and i apologize for my ignorance, but we have to fall down thanks |
| There should be a little ring dangling from the bottom of the barrel...aka a barrel link. You gotta make sure that's lined up with the slide level hole. The lever should go thru both the holes on the frame AND the barrel link hole. Takes little jiggling sometimes, like the toilet flusher :) |

welcome to the site. the tech side of the forum is handled very differently from the general discussion side. unless you are being an obvious troll, members here will try their best to answer your questions in a respectful manner. as mentioned, if you are trying to put your .45 slide/barrel back on you need to make sure you get the slide stop through the barrel link. there are several videos on youtube that show assembly/disassembly if you are getting stuck. |

I always turn the barrel bushing, remove the cap under the barrel (hold your hand in front of the cap or the spring may fling it out of the slide and bounce it off the wall) and this will take the spring pressure off. Go ahead and remove the slide release and the slide/barrel/barrel bushing/spring guide and spring. When you get ready to put it back together its much easier to get that link to line up with the holes in the frame and the slide stop with no spring pressure on the link. Once you get the slide release installed then slide then compress the spring, install the cap and turn the barrel bushing to lock it into place.
I haven't seen the you tube videos on the 1911 but some of them may be pretty good guides. |
| Very good point. Take the tension out of the equation by not putting the recoil spring in place capped until you have the slide lock inserted. Makes a huge difference in that you can jiggle the gun to get the link where you want it that way. Generally, point the muzzle down and shake it back and forth a little and you have things lined up. |
