| Does any one have any feed back on the Charles Daly 1911? |
|
Yeah, buy something else. RIA would be a better choice. It's not that CD is bad, it's just that it isn't particularly good.
Do you have one? I doubt it based on your statement. The same factory that makes Rock Islands made CDs. They are basically the same. Mine runs fine with no problems. |

I had one for a while. It was OK, not fantastic, but not, you know, the worst gun I've ever owned. It did have a chip out of the slide where there slidestop was... I don't think it's any better than a RIA, and CD is sadly out of business. If it's cheap though, knock yourself out.

Sure, they are basically the same. Go ahead and call the Charles Daly factory for support. And while you may response with "mine works so I don't need to call the factory" all things made can break, it's better to have the warranty and not need it, then need it and not have it. And while I have never owned both, I did seriously consider both about 2 years back when the gun shop I worked for had a used CD and a new RIA, and the RIA felt better put together. While I haven't handled many CD 1911s since then, I have handled a lot of RIA and been impressed with them. The OP's question was for feedback on CD, which caused me to consider CD vs. its competitors, and for the money the RIA and its warranty is the better choice. Period. |

Mine is a giant turd. Multiple jams of all kinds in every magazine, no matter which magazine or ammo. A return for service failed to correct the problem (they just polished the ramp a tiny bit. It has a weird slide cut, so no aftermarket sights fit it. It's not accurate at all; even my 3-inch Kimber will outshoot my 5-inch CD by a lot. Even the location of the grip screws is slightly off-spec so that other 1911 grips won't fit.
I wouldn't buy another one for $5. It has been a truly awful weapon––too unreliable for self defense, too inaccurate for fun range use. Apparently some have had better luck, so they may all not be bad. |

I bought mine new in about 2003. The mags that it came with suck. After I replaced them with decent mags mine has been 100% reliable. The serrated trigger tears up my finger but other than that it's been a solid shooter for the $$. If I were going to get a 1911 in that price range today I would go with a RIA but I'm not going to sell my CD.

I don't need to worry about CD being TU because the CD as well as the RIA are all 70 series 1911's and any 70 series part fits in them and any decent gunsmith will work on them. But considering I do most of my work myself I'm not worried about factory support. And BTW I never said "mine works so I don't need to call the factory". I know RIAs are good deals but you're statement that CDs were less so is BS. Right now with CD out of business they are an extra good deal because one can dicker on the price because of that. |
