I do not own a 1911, and would like to get one.
I had a chance to shoot a few today. The two that i have chance to buy are, TRP or Kimber Desert warrior. All things equal the Kimber can be had for $300 less. What say you? Rich |

It depends on what you are going to use it for. My nightstand gun is a Kimber Warrior with a Streamlight TLR 1 on it. My Carry gun is a Springfield Pro. If you're looking for a carry gun go with the TRP. Not looking for night stand gun. Looking for a range toy and maybe a carry piece from time to time. I will be shooting matches and such, but have the FNP Tactical for some of that. Rich |
| TRP hands down between the 2. I think the STI Trojan should be added in as well. Great 1911 built with quality parts in the US for $999 just about anywhere! The TRP and Trojan put the Warrior to shame as far as quality, fit, and finish go. The TRP is just a little better fitted though then the Spartan. And that Warrior being $300 less is well deserved being that it lacks $150-350 front strap checkering +refinishing costs if you were to get it done after the fact. |

how much do you want to spend and what do you want it for.
I have a springfield gi 45 that is a great kiss 1911 for a decent price I bought a springfield loaded a wile back cause I wanted a full size with all the bells outa the box and It is an outstanding weapon (its my favorite right now) I also got an old colt commander that had seen better days when I got it. and I did some work on it and then had my smith do some more difficult work on it, and it is deffenately an out standing weapon now(will be my ccw when ccw comes to WI) I know plenty of people that swear by their brand of 1911, but I say springfield is the way to go for an outa the box 1911 but before you buy, think about options and uses. like: are you a lefty? what kind of sights do you like and are used to? what type of shooting? (target, self defence, tactical, ect...) do you want it for carry? (open or ccw) what brands have you had luck with in the past with other weapons? (sig guy, remington man, ect...) take all this into account, then reaserch into different brands and models, compare prices also, develop a list of possible candidates, then see if you can ask around and maybe shoot some of the weapons on the list(friends, gun ranges sometimes have pistols for rent wile on the range, ect...), if you cant shoot em for a try 1st, then ask around alot about the specific models yer interested in, honestly never shot a kimber before, heard both good and bad about them my vote is for the springfield |
| I always stay away from Kimber for a mixture of subjective and objective reasons. Most if not all of the objective reasons for not buying a Kimber do not apply to a Warrior, and that is the only Kimber I would own (If it was gifted or priced right). That said, I would still go with the TRP. |

Tough choice. I'm a thorough Springfield fan, but the Kimber Warrior is the one Kimber I would buy. I would still go with the TRP for the checkering and warranty, though. +1 Depends on the price of the guns. TRP's a not worth more than $1500 (and that is stretching it) and Desert Warriors are not worth more than $1200. Based on those prices, I'd move forward with whichever one was the better deal. I like the Warrior, I have never been a fan of the coat job on the Desert Warrior, but the guns themselves should be capable. |
