I traded my M&P 45 for a like new Springfield loaded (2000 date). Took it to the range today and had sevral FTE stove pipes and jammed cases in the ejection port. It happened with CMC and Wilson mags and 3 kinds of ammo, So I figure it was the extractor not being tuned properly. Anyways I picked up a new one (kimber) and followed the 1911.org tuning guide and i am pretty happy with the tension I hand cycled a few rounds through and the new extractor seems to be working much better. Its still seems to be clocking a bit so I ordered a Wilson bullet proof plate and an extra power FP spring. Is there anything else I should look at? The ejector looks fine and it not dragging or loose.

Send it in to SAI. They have an excellent warranty and customer service.

EGW overside firing pin plate, a Colt, EGW, Ed brown, or Wilson "bullet proof" extractor.

Smash the SA extractor,

Fit the parts correctly.

re: send it to SAI; i have a longslide, purchased around 2003/4 that had extraction problems. i called SA and they told me (at that time)to sendit back and if it was a warranty issue they would refund my shipping.
i took the extractor out, got my little file and my magnifying lamp(if you're old/have aging eyes, you gotta get one)and fixed it myself.
i must say SA's warranty handling has come a long way since then but at least now i know i can fix it myself. but w/a six inch barrel i'm not tinkering w/a carry weapon!

This.

Get rid of that damn .38 Super extractor that SA puts in ALL of their 1911s and go to a proper .45 cal cartridge profile extractor. Fit accordingly.

It's been a while but as I recall the .38 super claw is .150 high and the true .45 claw is around .170 high. There are probably dimensional differences on the entire stem of the extractor but I never measured them.

Though it does not seem that claw height should truly matter, I find that the smaller extractors always seemed to be way over tensioned ( possibly due to the speed of the .38 super cycling rate and power ) as compared to the .45 extrtactor. Detensioning the .38 super extractor sometimes works....sometimes does not. I am not sure why though I have a theory.....just get a Wilson bulletproof and be done with it.

Went with a Wilson extractor and pin stop runs great now.  Fitted a new short cylinder and slide trigger and a stainless barrel bushing. I will try and get pics up if i can find the camera. Thanks for the replies guys!
