| All I want is a plain old no frills, other than a beavertail grip safety, 1911, good quality, not too tight of slide / frame fit, need a little room for dirt and grit, and no worthless forward slide serations on that otherwise beautiful tool. Oh, one more thing....made in USA. Now who makes this beast, for around a $1000? |

New manufacture Colt Series 70. Agreed. I got one of these but it did'nt come with a beavertail safety. ??? So install one, it's still as close as you are going to get for what he is looking for and they are dang nice guns and well made. |

Quoted: Quoted: Springfield Range Officer. This..Saw them at the November GS for $735. Looked nice but didn't care for the rear target sight but that can be replaced with anything on the market and still keep you well under a grand. Really? I'd like to hear how that works. Lets say I want to replace it with Novak sights. Please tell me how that can be done. |

You might be able to find a new Dan Wesson RZ Heritage 45 close to that price. Although it may be a bit tighter than what you're looking for. If you're willing to go used you really open up your options.

I ALMOST bought one as you describe, a Smith and Wesson 108285. I found a deal on a Springfield loaded thou and bought that instead. I keep wondering if I shouldn't have just spent the extra $120.00 for the Smith tho.. I love the way it looks.
Here's a pic

YOu really don't need a beavertail unless you have hands as big as hams. Just bob the spur and soften the edges on the rear of the grip safety and the rear tang of the frame where the web of your hand engages the frame. That's really it. This. I second the Colt.. though the 1991's are nice too IMHO. |

IF you can deal with an adjustable sight, I wouldn't hesitate on a Range Master. |
