I got offered a Kimber Custom Classic 1911 that is a series 1 without the internal safety. I don't know a ton about 1911's and their value but I really like the gun and Im wondering what the value is? I

would be giving about $750 worth or value and it comes with 3 Chip McCormic mags and a Little Bear Holster, is that a fair deal?

thanks and Merry Christmas

Last pre-Series II's Kimber made before the switch to the goofy Schwartz safety were selling around $650-700 street price new IIRC. If this one is NIB or very close to it, I would give $750 for it. If not I probably would either negotiate a better price or look elsewhere. BTW...the early 'Clackamas' marked Kimber 1911s were all made in New York too.

Thanks for the info ikor, that helps me me out.

more info: Gun was manufactured in 1999, and is stamped Yonkers. The round count is low at around 400 down the pipe. The gun is in good to very good condition

Would I be better off with this or a series 2 as a newcomer to 1911s? and what is a value estimate with new info?

thanks

You couldn't run fast enough to give me a Series II unless I could take that silly safety out. IMO this is a better gun in every way...just not as much bling as the new ones and priced lower. Probably a fair price at $750 but after Christmas is a bad time to try and move things including guns that run over $500. I'd see how close to $600 the seller would come, but then I already have eight 1911s so it really depends on how bad you want it vs how badly he wants or needs to sell.

$600 maybe, $750, heck no.

I agree with Ikor, do it, but see how far down you can get him to go.  Of course, I'm biased, my first 1911 is a Kimber Custom Classic just like that I bought in 1997 or 98.

I think that's a fair price, especially for a series I

I prefer series 1 to series 2.  I had a series 2 break the piece of the FPsafety under the rear sight.  It looked fine and functioned fine in try fire hammer would fall and everything.  The only problem was, it wouldnt allow the FP to move so no bang.  The parts were promptly removed and never put back in.  This was a competition only gun

$700 is about right.  I guess it all depends on what you thing the holster and magazines are worth.

Generally speaking, a Series I will sell for about $50 more than the newer Series II version around these parts.

I paid $550 for the exact same gun in 2000.

$750 is certainly top dollar, but if its nice and tight and hasn't been monkeyed with, I might go for it.

Series 1s are light years ahead of the later models in every way and they aint making no more of them!

ETA. That trigger doesn't look right, unless they changed the later model series 1s.

Mine (4 digit serial number) has a polymer skeleton trigger and a Kimber rep told me that they all had that, so you might be looking at a bubba gun.

I would question the guy and see if any work was done on it and maybe use that to bargain down to a better price.

People in this thread need to go on gunbroker and tell them they are all crazy.  Lot's (3-4) Kimber "classics" being sold and the reserves are set 750 plus.....  I would be willing to pay 500 and that's about it.

IIRC, I paid around $750 new for my Classic Custom in 97-98 timeframe.  It has the polymer trigger, but the later ones did come with the three hole aluminum triggers.

Trigger is normal.  My Series-I Ultra has the same trigger.  :
