Did a little shooting today and had a weird problem with my 1911 for the first time ever. It only happened twice in about 60 rounds fired but it
totally disabled my piece for awhile. The brass from a fired round did not eject from the gun. It just stayed there held in place by the extractor.
I had to drop the partially full mag and pry the round off of the extractor with my finger tip.
WTF would cause this? It was 34 degrees out , the pistol has an upgraded extractor, has had the ejection port opened up , polished feed ramp, awesome trigger and a good barrel.
I have about 4-500 rounds thru it since the last upgrade, but have never had an FTE.
Any ideas? And what is it that should knock the brass off of the extractor anyway?

 Thanks for any help.

Looks like it's broke from fixing and I'd suspect the upgraded extractor wasn't tensioned right (though the facts in this case are the reverse of the typical case).

What upgraded extractor is it?

Who fit it?

Has it been removed in the course of 500+ rds for cleaning?

it's a "Ed Brown Hardcore Extractor" Probably close to 1K rounds on it and no problems except the 2 rounds today.
After cleaning it tonight, I was wondering what is the little spring loaded knob sticking up from the frame? Is that what is supposed to push the brass out? Just wondering if it's possible that some grit or something got in there and made it temporarily crap out.
Any other ideas anyone?  Is this the right forum for these type questions?

That is the disconnector, I do not think that is causing the problem. Your extractor could be clocking or have too much tension or are you using a different type of ammo? It could be the magazine.
