| I have a chance to get a colt 1911 the slide is a mark IV series 70 but the frame is older (no 270xxx). there is no "us property" on the frame. Any advice on the history or value. all the finish is very good. Thanks. |

if the frame is an original M1911 frame with your listed ser# it was made in 1918. if the USP stamp and acceptance marks have been removed, you are left with an old colt frame made in 1918, nothing more. no collectible value as it has been butchered. all in all its a parts gun worth whatever you are willing to pay for it |

if the serial is proceeded by a C and/or the frame has the words government model on it it is a old commercial model frame. without the C or gov model wording it is very likely a us property frame with the marking removed which for some reason was very commonly done to the 1911's
does it still have an inspectors mark (intertwined initials or small eagle head with number below) in the area near the mag release button? if so that would verify a us prop removed frame from a gi gun. also with the slide off the area near the disconnector hole would have a G stamp to indicate gov order if it was a gi frame. |
| There is a G behind the disconector, there is a S to the right side of the dissconector, an H in front of the disconecter and an 8 by the feed ramp all on the frame. Above the mag release there is the JMG proof. The serial reads No270xxx. there are no signs of "US property" being ground off. So I guess from what you guys have said its a 1918 Govt. model? |

the G, S, and H marks are correct for a USGI frame/pistol. you may not see signs the USP mark removed, but it was. there were simply no USGI frames without the USP mark ETA: a government model wouldnt have the JMG stamp and i cant see why anyone would remove the "Government Model" rollmark over the ser# |
| so its fair to say its been ground and refinished? they did a nice job grinding cause you cant tell butthat sucks. the grip safety, thumb safety, lanyard mount and hammer all look good. The slide and barrel are mark IV series 70. Do you think its worth$350? Thanks again for all your help. |
