I have a 1911 that every time the magazine catch moves to the side (like when a magazine is inserted or the match catch button is pressed the captured screw in the magazine catch button will rotate just enough so that the magazine catch won't return to its normal at rest position.

the screw rotates partway to the position it needs to be in to remove the magazine catch.  I can't for the life of me figure out why it would do that.  Ideas?

I just installed an Ed Brown extended mag release that did the same thing. I had to file a bevel on the inside of the mag catch so it wouldn't catch every time it was depressed.

Can you tell me where to do the bevel in the mag catch?  I have been known to screw crap up.

Looking at this pic, take your mag catch out (it comes out without taking any other parts off).  Notice where you depress the catch latch and it captures the inner assembly without popping out.  Right there.

First, turn the spring around and see if that helps.

Grind your spring flat on the end as well. they have a bad habit of turning and catching the tab when compressed.
