Very nice! Defeat the ILS, put in a GI recoil setup from EGW and add some personalized grips and you are gonna have one sweet 1911 I dunno, I'm kind of a sucker for the existing grips
What's the advantage to the different recoil setup? ETA: And does the ILS have negative effect on function? While I'll probably never use it, I didn't have any intention of going out of my way to disable it. |

While I'll probably never use it, I didn't have any intention of going out of my way to disable it. Disabling the ILS with stock components actually gave my gun a slightly lighter trigger feel. Brownels sells a MSH rebuild kit for like $11 that takes care of everything. I hate the 2-piece FLGR because I don't want to use a tool to take apart my gun, so I went with the GI setup. EGW took care of those parts. You like the grips...keep em. |

I haven't taken the time to check out how the ILS works, so I was kind of curious about that. I'll have to check out that kit. I'm still not sure how I feel about the FLGR. Didn't know if the setup you were referring to was something different than the standard spring/rod. What grips did you switch to? |

I'm drooling as I type this. That is the same pistol that I want next. Give us an update after the range trip, i'd like to know how you like it. Took her out to the short range (10yd) at my gun club yesterday afternoon. I would've liked to have hit the 25yd, but the club is open to the public 7 days/wk now and is very busy leading up to deer opener. Ammo was Rem-UMC 230gr FMJ. I was going into this trip slightly pessimistic, as I haven't been to the range in a little over a month and hadn't shot .45 in several months. First magazine out of the gun went into a group approximately the size of a half dollar. Needless to say, I was impressed. She continued to be reliably consistent and accurate through 100 rounds. After 100 rounds, my wrists were starting to get a little tired (it was chilly and I was just starting to kind of tighten up in general, which didn't help) and my hands were getting just a little sore. The grips and frame checkering are definitely aggressive and will take some getting used to, but I was extremely impressed by the repeatability (for lack of a better term) that this offered. The gun did not slip in my hands at all and allowed me to consistently return to the same point of aim very quickly. I normally had trouble shooting controlled pairs with my Taurus, but found myself coming back on target extremely quickly with the TRP. The sights are going to take some time for me to get used to. I don't own any other handguns with night sights, and the tritium vials almost made the sights seem sort of "busy." It was actually a little distracting for me at first, but after a few magazines it just became something different. I noticed that I was picking up the target very quickly with these sights. The gun functioned flawlessly, with no FTE/FTFs. Ejection was very consistent. All in all, I couldn't be happier with it. I found myself shooting tighter groups with the TRP than I normally do with my M&P40 (which is my "primary" handgun). I think the overwhelming impression I had of the TRP was being extremely impressed with how easy it is to shoot. I guess I was never ENTIRELY convinced that there was a 1911 worth $1600 based off functionality alone, but I'm certainly a believer |

You will be pleasantly surprised at the accuracy the gun has. Bring the allen wrench for the guide rod and make sure it doesn't loosen up after a few rounds. Duly noted re: the allen wrench. Stayed tight so far, but I'll keep that in mind. If I stick with the FLGR, maybe I'll pick up another allen just to keep in the shooting bag. I'm excited to get out and try it at 25 yards. My M&P does pretty well at 25, but I'm anxious to see how the TRP does |

Taurus is a good 1911 for the price- but nowhere near what you've got now- congrats and nice pistol... I bought the Taurus not long after the shops and dealers started getting them in stock, and I think I paid $450-500 for it. Now that I see them going for $600+ in some places, I think I'd have a tough time justifying that over a Springfield Loaded or Colt for a couple hundred more. |
