I have a 1911PD which for the most part, I like..

It does have an issue that I find aggravating.  Roughly 10% of the ejected cases hit me on the head somewhere..
This ain't right !   What might be causing this little inconvience ??

I really don't know if you can do anything about that, since it has an external extractor.

Wear a hat and safety glasses, that's what I do, especially went on the range during a CHL course. Constantly pelted by flying brass.

Is it a new gun? There have been issues on the early versions where the brass was all coming straight back at the shooter. The solution was to call S&W, they issued a call tag, fixed it, and returned it to you. However I seem to recall it was happening a lot more than 1 in 10 times.

The easier solution would be to install a extended ejector and dry cycle w/ dummy rounds to Insure proper function.

It tends to be a little tricky w/ the S&W 1911 do to its external exractor.

That is why Kimber generally went back to a traditional Internal extractor on there 1911's

Hope this helps,
