Got a series 70 govt model to sight in.Heine fixed rear sight, front post is to high and needs to be lowered to match the ammo i'm going to use.
(W-Wwhite box 230gr fmj).
Where would you set point of aim/point of impact? I think about 25 yards may be 50.

I use 25 yards bullet impact just above front sight. I file the front sight with a slight tapper point towards the muzzel.

Your hitting low right.

I use a 20 yard zero but regardless of the distance you choose to set your zero at the bullet should impact directly on top of the front sight when a proper sight picture is used.

Plain sights are normally regulated for a 6 o'clock hold at 25 yards.  Dot sights are normally regulated for a POA/POI hold at 25 yards.

Check where your POI is at 25 and 50 yards. I use a red dot in competition. My 1911 .45acp hits dead on at 25 and 50 yards with my loads.
