Well I pulled the trigger on a new pony today ... Colt blackened rail gun ... she's pretty sweet.

Looks damn good!

I'm patiently waiting to see if they'll release a carbon steel version.

When are you gonna get a range report?

Beautiful! I'm so used to seeing classic Colts, nice to see one like this every once and a while.
Congrats!

The grips had to go

Hopefully I'll get to the range tomorrow if the "honey do" list isn't to long ... I will report back when I get a chance to put some lead down range with it.

ETA she looks good oiled up ... think I'm getting aroused.

Sweet!

It'd look good with a solid black trigger from Harrison Custom. Any plans other than to shoot it?

I liked the gray double diamonds but I can understand why you might want something grippier with that rail gun...nice...

You should be quite pleased with it. Mine has been 100% flawless.

S&A MSH, appropriate wood grips, Caspian ambi thumb safety that uses a hex shaft and modified hammer pin (best ambi safety I've seen yet) and removed the 80 series safety using a brownells plate and standard firing pin spring.

Well back from my range trip The gun shot pretty good ... here she is nice and dirty with her first target.

Only had one issue ... no FTF or FTE ... but two times the trigger didnlt reset. Only happened twice the third and forth shots which are also the stringers in the target you see below (low and a little left) ... not sure what happened ... maybe it was me? Anyway .. after that she shot like a dream. The target below was 16 shots at 10yrds using PMC bronze 230grs FMJ .... and the other 50+ rounds I shot were similar in accuracy ... overall very happy with the gun.

ETA  ... to Nakanokalronin that is a nice looking Colt ... they had that one sitting next to the blackened ... it was a hard choice. Caspian you say ... ya the verdict is still out on the ambi safety .. it functions fine but not sure I like the feel of it. Thanks for heads up ... if I decide to change it out I'll try the Caspian.

Looks like a great shooter!

I changed out the ambi safety because when I removed the right grip panel the right side thumb safety literally fell out. I chaulk it up to all ambi safeties suck, with one exception. The Caspian seems the best to date with a half way hex shaft and modified hammer pin/groove on the other. Now way is it going to fall out or snap in the middle. I usually stick with single sided but I liked the ambi for some reason on the Colt so I wanted to keep it that way.

Here is the safety: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=62298/pid=32437/sku/Ambi_Extended_Safety__SS?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&mc_id=10000&gdftrk=gdfV21820_a_7c187_a_7c745_a_7c168000108_d_168000105_d_729

It ain't cheap but nothing beats it IMO.

I saw that when I was choosing a new ambi safety. The Caspian is still better IMO because it does not use a screw yet is still nice and solid. The wilson also still uses half pieces for the shaft. The Caspian is solid and square keyed about half way through.

The keyed part goes in far and is more solid than it looks. I could rip the right side of the safety completly out of the gun and the left side would still function fine, but when they are together its one solid piece.

Wow!!! those are both pretty nice ambi's ... I was just thinking the other day someone needs to redesign those things.

I did notice a little "wiggle" to the ambi side of the safety while cleaning it so I probably will be looking to replace it.

Thanks for the info guys.

I sure will ... it was really dry and tacky when I purchased it but after oiling the gun internally and externally it looks and feels much nicer now.

The finish almost feels like my Para that I redid with aluma hyde ii ... I also shot that today for the first time since all the work (new barrel bushing, beavertail, wilson springs, wilson sear) and it shot almost as good as the Colt.
