I have the chance to pick up a Kimber Custom 2 for around $900 after tax and all the other BS california makes you do. Was hoping to get some feed back on what people think of the custom 2 as far as quality an performance. The last 1911 I had was a SA mil-spec and it was great! Unfortunatly at the time putting food on the table and having a roof over head took precidence over keeping it. That was about 3 years ago and have since become much more financially stable and am looking to get another 1911. I was going to buy another SA but have always heard how great Kimber was. I am curious as to what the horses mouth had to say. I would like to hear the pro's and con's from the Kimber owners out there. Thanks, Criz

My very fist 1911 was and is a Kimber Custom II. I will never sell it! I have the external extractor version and never had an issue with it. I have sent it to Kimber to have checkering done on the front strap and installed ambi safety. I have also removed the full length guide rod and opted for the standard recoil plug. I have fired over 1000 rounds and runs like a champ.

I had a Stainless Custom II and loved it.  Sold it when I needed cash.  I know have a Kimber Pro Carry stainless (series I) and will never sell it.
I have had zero problems with either of my Kimbers.

Great Guns

I bought one in California a few years ago, $733 OTD.  $900 sounds way too high.

A Custom II is a fine first 1911.

I have no idea what CA taxes are or what other fees are involved but 900 seems a bit high. What was the base price of the gun without the taxes/fees ??

I will agree that for my area that seems a little high.  I have had mine for a couple of years and I daily carry it so I obviously like it and trust it.  The only change that I have made is night sights.  Shooting in low light (even a range with low lights) can be challenging with the stock sights.  Other than that I have been 100% happy.  These days I mostly shoot it with the .22 conversion kit from kimber.  The mags with that kit suck but ciener makes some nice mags that will run like a champ and feel more like a 1911 mag should.

I have a Custom II and it is a very good pistol.  Your price seems high, but maybe thats what they get in your part of the country.  Here they go for $800 plus tax. 6%
I will recomend the gun though.  Very happy with mine.  Good luck on your choice.

My Custom II was sold to it's original owner in Komifornia in 2003 for the princely sum of $751.00 out the door.

My first 1911 was a Stainless II. It was stolen by TSA, and with the reimbursement money I bought a CDP.  I love my CDP, but I miss that Custom Stainless II every day. If I had it to do over...

I have had two of these. The first one my son talked me into selling to him. The second one is in my IWB holster on me right now. I love these guns and both have been fantasic shooters. My skills are not as good as the gun will shoot. I think your price is a little high. The shop where my son bought a new Pro Carry last weekend had a new one for $789 the same price as the Pro Carry.

My first 1911 was a custom II.  The only problem I ever had was that the slide stop was a tad bit too big, meaning that a couple of times during a box of ammo the ball ammo would push it up with rounds left in the magazine.  It was quickly solved by filing a tiny bit off the angled edge of the slide stop.  Other than that, it ate everything I fed and was extremely accurate.  The only reason I got rid of it was because I wanted something that was a little more carry friendly and sold it for something else.  But it was a great gun and I wouldn't have any problem buying another Kimber.

When did the DROS go from $14 to 25?

But yeah, OTD should be between $800 and $850.
