I purchased 3 of the supposed "legendary" Wilson Combat mags for my full size Colt XSE Stainless which is only a few years old; I had never had more than a couple malfunction with the factory Colt mags but bought Wilson's sales pitch and felt I needed something better.
I went to the range today with two 8 round and 1 ten round wilson stainless magazine; shot 100 rounds. A loaded bullet became jammed halfway in the chamber causing the slide to stay open partially, every 20 rounds approximately - so I had 5 major jams. I have a thousand rounds through this XSE with not more than a couple malfunctions at the most using the stock mags. Has anyone else had this problem with Wilson mags? |
| Colt factory 7 round mags have the correct hybrid tapered feedlips that was specified by the designer of the weapon. They are necessary to enable the weapons intended control feed principle. Mags like wilson and other, use wadcutter feed lips, they are a NOT control feed design. They kinda lob the bullet into the chamber. If your weapon works correctly with colt 7 round hybrid tapered feedlips, then ditch the "Improved" wilson mags, and run the correctly designed Colt mags. |

Have you tried any Chip McCormick Power Mags? Quoted: Colt factory 7 round mags have the correct hybrid tapered feedlips that was specified by the designer of the weapon. If your weapon works correctly with colt 7 round hybrid tapered feedlips, then ditch the "Improved" wilson mags, and run the correctly designed Colt Checkmate mags. Colt doesn't manufacture their own mags. Checkmate makes them to Colt's specs and charges less for ones that don't have a pony on it. No sense in paying more for the same thing. |

Yes I do, order some mags from this link. Only order the ones that specify Hybrid feedlips. They make both kinds(wadcutter and hybrid) for diffrent companies. They have 8 round basepad hybrid feedlip mag, and just about any other kind of mag with Colt Designed Hybrid feedlips. The 7 round blue with hybrid feedlips, ARE the "Colt" mags. Colt factory 8 round mags are nothing more than chip mccormick shooting stars. Only the 7 round mag Colt sells(Made by Checkmate) is made to the correct Specs for controlled feed. They are the only mags I will run in my Colt 1911, and they work great.

| I had a similar issue with a Colt. It would feed fine with the controlled feed mags like the ones that came with it but not with Wilson or Tripp mags. I found this to be a break-in issue. After about 500-600 rounds it started feeding flawlessly with any mag and has never had a problem since (over 2k now). |

MAGAZINES Colt mag direct link Thanks, I wasn't aware that 1911 mags had a feed lip variation; that has got to be the issue, because I had problems with all 3 wilson mags, and we are talking about a near new XSE. I would actually need a few more 8rd mags, that is what the XSE came with, so probably these: http://www.checkmatemagazines.com/cart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=12&idproduct=112 - though I think I can buy them with the pony for that price. |

Here's some advice from someone with Colt 8 round experience. Have two Colt XSE O models that came with new Colt stamped 8 rounders.... They're not worth the postage to send back to Colt. Mine will feed from most any magazine. Tripp Cobras are my favorite 8 rounder followed by Wilson ETM and Wilson 47d. Tripp's and ETM's sit a little higher in receiver so I think you'd have success with either. In fact if you contact Wilson they will graciously trade you an ETM for your 47D.... bet money on it.

Yes sir, thats the mag you want, 8 round hybrid lips. After running the correct hybrid and GI feed lip mags, I will never run any of the Wadcutter feed lip workaround Wilson/Tripp/Chip Powermag again. Once you see and hear the diffrence in feeding between a mag with the correct feedlip geometry VS some of the mags that try to bypass controlled feed by setting higher and using feedlips designed for whadcutters, youll understand what I mean. |
