have the chance to get a newer AO 1911 GI built be kahr. Im aware of the past AO reputation and have done some searching and it seems kahr has improved the quality.
I still see people warning against them but these people ussual only backup there worries with the past AO's rep.

Does anyone have one of the newer pistols build by kahr ? if so how has it been.

Im aware that some needed the extractor tuned and front sight fitted tighted and these wouldnt be a problem and i see them as fairly minor issues.

Im really just looking for any real solid issues with these pistols and trying to cut through the rumor.

Are there parts so poor quality they just dont last ? or are they good basic no frills 1911's ?

I used to have a A.O. 1911 10mm pistol a while back- good shooter and no issues with it. Sold it when I lived in Montanna- wished I would have kept it

I saw a guy at the range once shooting a modified AO pistol and it was shooting really well.

I think they cast frames.  I may be wrong.

i keep hearing different things about the frames. I think its a cast frame and a forged slide

I have one and it is a good value for the money.

Finish is a bit light, extractor needed to be tuned, etc.

The frame and quite a few of the parts are cast.

Thanks,

I have a Thompson Custom. No problems so far. I don't have a lot of rounds downrange yet (less the 500) so I can't comment on anything long term.

I want to change out the sights though. The rear notch is too narrow for my eyes and I want to add a fiber optic front.

Which model are you looking at?

im just looking at the GI WW2 model. My plans are to use it as a range gun untill/and if it proves itself to be reliable enough for HP work alongside my G19 and other pistols.
would also slowly upgrade parts as i went along.

im not an 1911 expert but i know my way around them enough to do most things short of frame modification ect. so tinkering with one wouldnt be to big of a deal.
just wondering if most of the major parts are of good enough quality to last even if i were to upgrade smaller parts such as hammer, sear, springs ect.

I'm a little particular about my arms manufacturers and Kahr (as you are already aware) owns AO.

Kahr was founded by and is run by the son of Sun Myung Moon, the founder of the Moonies.  Not that you should hold the "sins" of the father against him, but Kahr is also owned by a affiliate of the Unification Church (Moonies).

Whether you care or not is up to you.  If you don't care, I only hear good things about their firearms.

I've owned one. I will NEVER own another.

I've owned an AO for 25 years, ran IPSC with it right out of box and always placed as high as my shooting allowed.  The only problems I've ever encountered with it could be traced to crappy magazines.  Meaning the problems vanished with a mag swap.

It's still sitting in the safe, and I'm still confident that, if the ammo does its part, the pistol will do the same.
