A bit of a departure from my usual work.
This one is NOT a personal defense weapon.
Designed for USPSA Limited Minor and Steel Challenge matches.
6" slide for enhanced sight radius.
Slide lightening to help function with very light loads.
Titanium Blue Cerakote over a base of manganese phosphate.

Wow, that thing is a beast! I'm curious to know what the weight is.

That sir is a wild looking .45...Not sure if I should call it a 1911 or a ray gun. Still pretty damn sweet!

Radically fantastic Chuck!

I'm sorry but no, I can't go for that.

Link Posted: 9/7/2010 9:15:35 AM EDT
Is that in the 40 Watt range?
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 10:13:23 AM EDT
Robo Cop called he wants his gun back....just messing with you. It is clearly a purpose built gun. For that puropse it looks pretty solid. How much weight were you able to shed?

What is the finish on the slide? electroless nickel?

Definitely an interesting piece.

Probably more like the .40 S&W range.

Glad to see a comp gun come through your shop, I thought those days were long gone.

While it really isnt my style I can sure appreciate the work that went into it.

What is it with those competition shooters, they love to deck out their pistols.

When you shoot in pistol games, that's your 'Hotrod"...

Guys, don't hate. Celebrate diversity here. Each of these pistols is purpose built. Self defense guns are designed for one purpose. Race guns are built for another. Bullseye guns are built for something different still.

There are always guys that post in these threads that say this isn't my thing. That is all I meant.

That frame is a few years old for sure. Aside from the SN range, the newer frames have more of a bevel above the trigger guard area. I also like how you scooped out the frame under the slide release to make it easier to engage.

what quite a few people dont realize is that the quality of todays production guns can be traced almost directly back to the quality of guns like this.

It was quite common to see the Colt and Smith people at SHOT and the Nationals from the 80's Through the 90's.

....and I can promise you they learned a lot about what works outside their own doors.....

Just my humble observation.....

Simultaneously showing great technical skill and great uglification.

Well done.

The only thing I can say is I'd like to shoot it.

Looks like it'd be a hell of a lot of fun!

Well, it isn't my thing but I make it a practice to not insult anyone's pistol even if I might think it is the worst I have ever seen. However, when you put something out for comment, you will damn sure get them; good AND bad. Even the professionals need to hear the "great unwashed" give an honest opinion now and then.

sweeeeeet. needs racing stripes.

It is really impressive and exciting to see the evolution of the race gun. I remember probably 10 or 12 years ago the first race gun that I had experience with was a STI Trubor GM that my cousin shot. My thought back then was how over the top it looked. The guns of today make that gun look run of the mill.

Did you do anything trick that isn't readily apparent with the photos?
