[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Polymer frame 1911?

Just wondering if in the past any manufacturer has ever tried to manufacture a polymer frame with the true 1911 functionality and design. Would this be taboo in the 1911 community or is the metal frame of the 1911 design just too integrated in the design to be replaced with polymer. I imagine a little weight could be shaved off...just curious.

I thought the Kimber was the Bul. Imported by Kimber with their name on it. The Bul is a great gun from everything I've seen/read/heard. Haven't had a chance to shoot them much myself though. I might have to get one sometime.

A polymer 1911 makes about as much sense as a front wheel drive Corvette.

A metal frame is one of the primary features of the 1911, IMO. If you want to save weight, check out an alloy-framed model.
