Im relatively new to the 1911 but after shooting a friend's I now realize that I need one Ive handled quite a few lately and have decided on a NH GRP recon II. My question is do many people run their high end custom 1911s like one would run a glock or "beater" gun? Most of my pistols get pretty beat up and I personally couldnt care less how they look, but is this considered "blasphemy" on such an expensive custom 1911? What I really want to hear from somebody is its fine for me to put a NH through the paces and put some "character marks" on it

You actually need a go ahead from ar15.com before you make a move about your pistol??? Your gun, your money- do what you wish with it. What if the responses were the opposite? Absolutely not. The question was inherently directed at the uses of higher end custom 1911s and whether or not NHs in particular are built to be run, or to be more of a "pretty, boutique" gun. The "hive's" consensus on how I use my gun has no bearing on my decision, but rather if others felt that the custom 1911s are suited for heavy use. If the general consensus was that a different manufacturer was better suited for more use/abuse then, yes, I would reconsider before I "make a move" due to my lack of experience with the platform. Thanks for lookin out though |

Asking if you can shoot a semi custom/custom 1911 as much as any other 1911 is like asking if you should bring your Ferrari to the race track. Some people sit the car in the garage and some people drive the shit out of it. It looks good doing either but one of the two is way more fun |

I try not to abuse it but I carry them all the same I have a Nighthawk also. If I'm going out to do some intentional hard work I carry a Glock, I'm not stupid, I try not to abuse the expensive one's. I like them to look purtty! |

1. Buy one.
2. Blow as many rounds through it as you can afford. 3. If it doesn't work, send it back. 4. If it does, you have your answer. What you're really asking is, is NH worth the risk? Any gun can fail, and 1911s are a challenging platform. the answer is yes. Not my first choice personally, as I had one built for a similar price, but the percentages are good with NH. And unless you're a hobbyist, of course you want to use it hard. It's built for that. |

Ive never viewed nighthawk as a gun pretty enough to not beat up. In fact i see a Night Hawk,Wilson,Ed Brown,Springfield Professional and i WANT to run the shit out of them. |

Got my GRP recon 3 months ago and I cant help but the shit out of it.
2000 rounds in 3 months, drives tacks all day and looks awesome. Pulls duty on the nightstand at night and chews up the bullseye at the range several times a week. Get one, you will not regret it. |
| I have a Nighthawk Talon II bobtail that has been my constant companion , November will be 4 years and I have around 5,000 rounds down the tube , it has a lot of character on all the high points from carry and holster wear. I also have a Nighthawk Vickers Tactical which only has a little over 1,000 rounds through it and it looks fairly new still. If i ever figure how to post pictures I'll be glad to do so. I have a Mac Book Pro computer, what's the best way to post pictures? |

Id say they are the better choice for plain old running the shit out of them. I do mine. Dont get me wrong I dont abuse them but they dont see kid gloves either. What do you guys think are the "better choices?" My thoughts: Nighthawk Ed Brown Les Baer Wilson Combat Springfield Custom Shop These are just a few of the MANY that produce "tier 1" combat 1911's that you can "run the shit out of" |

I dont think I could add to the list outside of having a top end gunsmith building something off a Colt/Springfield/Baer/STI/Caspian base. And I only used it in jest.
