Hello, I think this might be the right place to ask for help with the manufaturingn date on a Walter P38 I recieved. The gun is excellent shape with it looks like very little use. Contact wear from firing is minimal. My grandfather purchased the gun in 1970 thru a private party. I have no history beyond that. Then Serial number is 2901XX. All parts are marker the same. The print on the left side of the slide is very light. But only reads walter P38 Cal 9mm and the last four SSN printer closer to the safty. The only think on the right side of the gun is a smaller 'made in west germany' just to the front above the triger on the frame. The very last marking I could find is the marking of a very small 68 with a very tiny picture of what looks like a small elogated fire with another smll pring of what might be a eagle kinnda shaped as a pentagon. Right below the pentagon is a tiny tiny little N. All this is printer very small on the left side of the upper portion of the trigger guard. Right below the full serial number onthe frame. Any help idntifying anything special about this gun would be useful. I would like to pay my grandmother a fair price for this gun but I have no experience with thses guns! Thanks so much! |

Since it says "West Germany" it's clearly a commercial varient. It probably has an alloy frame instead of steel too, yes? There's a bunch of these on the market right now for $300 or so but they're parkerized slides, not too pretty. I'd say yours is worth in the $250-325 range. Tell Granddad to cut you some slack on the price! |
