just picked up my 1918 VoPo Luger yesterday and need some help. I tried it with two different types of 9mm ammo but couldn't get it running 100%. First off was some 115gr American Eagle (Federal?). The first shot would go off just fine however each subsequent round would misfeed. The only other ammo I had was some of the NATO stuff with a "WCC" headstamp. After the first shot with this ammo I would have to manually re-cock the pistol to advance to the next round. Anyone have any ammo suggestions? The only other type I have at home is some Seller & Bellot to try next time.
Nevertheless I think it's a really really cool pistol and I will not rest until I get that sucker working! |
| Is the hold open locking backthe action if you only fire one round and have no other rounds in the magazine? If it locks back every time you ammo is powerful enough. More than likely failures to feed in the Luger are from a weak mag spring. IF the magazine follower thumb piece is easy to push down the spring is too weak. Try another mag or replace the mag spring if you think it is weak. Magazine loading tools were issued with these guns because the original spring in the mags were very strong and loading the mag without a tool was tough on the thumbs. |

I agree on the mag spring being a probable issue. I bought an aftermarket mag for mine & it runs just fine with 115gr ammo.
Do NOT run NATO spec ammo thru your Luger! These are really too hot for the toggle action & can do harm to the gun. Too nice of a gun to subject it to that, IMO. How much oil do you run on the slide & frame? I think they run best when oiled down real well. My .o2 |
| I agree with Bob on the Nato ammo, dont use it. I have seen Luger with CRACKED rear toggles from shotting too hot ammo. Again, if the toggle locks back everytime when you only fire one round, the ammo is hot enough. Most people I know use Wincheter White box 115 gr. But all Lugers should be tested with the low power ammo like this FIRST. Shooting Lugers with a very weak main spring or too hot ammo can also break the ejector, I know I have broken several this way. |
