Hey guys, I've several questions for the experts:

1. I was given a P14-45 and now need a holster.  Does Safariland make one for this?

2. My gun is VERY VERY tight on ALL of the springs.  I can only load 12 rounds into the mags, takes a ton of force to charge.  Is this normal?

3. Any tips and tricks I should know for owning this gun?

Thanks in advance everyone.

3. Any tips and tricks I should know for owning this gun?  Mine worked flawlessly for sever hundred thousand rounds.  It is an older all steel single action, It needs rebuilt simply from use.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Thank you very much :)  It's a brand new in box gun that came with 5 mags.  Should I trade out the Mec-Gar mags and the factory mags?

Only if you have problems with the factory mags.  If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Watch out, it won't fit in all holsters. Blackhawk Serpas are no go, they come too far behind the trigger guard and hit the frame. I carry my P14 in a Safariland 6280, fits perfect. When I'm not wearing my duty rig I use a Blackhawk nylon pancake until I get something better made.

Do you run a light on your Para?

Nope, no rail. I've considered putting one of the aftermarket rails on it, but haven't gotten past the thinking stage.

Not to dispute your particular set-up, but I carry mine (both of 'em - a full size and a compact) in Serpa CQC's with no problem. Secure and fast.

Love my Serpas. (AND my Paras!)

Did they change something? Mine hit the top edge of the holster directly behind the trigger and would lock in if you pushed real hard, which would spread apart the sides of the holster.

Thanks again for the help guys.

Does anyone know if standard 1911 grips will fit this gun?

Nope, quite a bit different. Drop the mag and take a look at the bottom edge of the grips and you'll see the difference. Single stack grips are flat on the inside (more or less).

Did just that and you're right.  My google-fu is weak, any idea where to get grips?

Only ones I know of are Hogue, or get out the Dremel and get creative.

I found, in spite of my smallish hands, the Hogue wraparounds are The Goodies. Great feel and control. I am getting used to the look..

It could be that the Sportster and normal Serpas have different molds. I'll see if there's a Serpa duty holster at the uniform shop next time I head down there and find out if it fits.

That would be great I have photo's of a modified Serpa and was not wanting to dremel if I did not have to

Keep the Para mags, that is what I have been using for many years.  The one MecGar I bought works but no better than Para.

[#21]
Keep the Para mags, get some Dawson Basepads, and Viola, you are set to go.  If your factory mags will only hold 12, then you should be able to get 17-18 with the dawsons with nothing more than swapping the basepad.

Best mags going are the blued factory 15 round models. You can find ProMag 20s on gunbroker too sometimes, which are great if your gun likes them.

For holsters, as was said above, just watch the frame swell by the mag release. I use Galco, Bianchi, and Blackhawk CQC IWBs, and several nylon models from Uncle Mike's, Galati, and others. I have not had good luck with Kydex, specifically Fobus, or with the Yaqui Belt Slide designs. I also found, sadly, that the Bianchi 'unversal' military flap holster did not fit.

No problems with the Serpa holster for me. I sold it though because it just wasn't comfortable. I carry in a IWB Bianchi primarily. It's very comfortable and it protects you from the hammer as the leather goes all the way up beyond where the hammer is. When not concealing, I carry it in a Galco holster. Not sure of the model number, but this is what is on the back. D819WCD, and under that, CON212M.

I have a limited P14-45 with an attached light rail on the dustcover.  I haven't picked up a holster yet for it, since with the attached light rail it looks like I'm going to have to get one of the Safariland's for a 1911 with the light attached.

Good gun, mags are tight, but they do wear in after repeated use.

Congrats on your newest addition.

Also, make sure to get a really good belt. Most people overlook this. It's a heavy pistol, and you will pay without a good belt, but with a well made belt it's a breeze, and I carry mine all day. I bought a Galco belt as well. I don't know which is the model number but here's what's there. Galco, SB3  38H. Also, D819WC   and 38/95. All of this was bought at Brownell's.

One other word of advice for you. Go ahead and order Wolff mag spring kits for all of your mags.

Funny, if I jam my P14s in the Serpa hard enough to lock it takes a screwdriver to get 'em back out.

As for loading mags, MAGLULA is something I should have done a long time ago. Very happy with it. Turned my 20 round Promags from irritating 14 round junk mags into functional 20s.

UPDATE: I bought a surplus Ashley manufactured OD "Bianchi-style M9" holster for $15 on Ebay, and my P14s fit perfectly in it, unlike the $60 Binachi 1911 version I bought new. YMMV...

Well I should add my newest experience with holsters. Got my P14 to fit in a Serpa with some help from a dremel tool. And Just got a Bladetech WSR holster. On the bladetech I had to modify the hood to clear the Bomar type sight that comes on the Limited. I also rounded off the sights sharp corners. Bladetech mag holders work awesome as well

You can get the gun to fit in the Blackhawk Serpa with some very minor work with a dremel tool.

I found it was actually a little more than very minor. But still easy. And my single stack still works  fine as well

I just got my first Super Hawg and am carrying it in a Tagua leather IWB holster, for only $29.99 at a local shop, which I am loving. It also fit in a new Galco 'Yaqui Belt Slide' although a few years back I bought one that none of my Paras would fit into properly. The new belt slide seems to be a better model all around. Here is a quick picture of the Tagua. It's not as rough as it looks in the crappy phone picture, although not as slick as a Galco, but solid stitching, good quality leather and clip, plenty of room for the front sight not to snag...and at 1/2 to 1/3 the price, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying this brand again.
