All this talk about new recoil springs got me thinking about the spring in my C7.45LDA. The weapon is several years old (I acquired it used), and I've never changed the spring despite putting several hundred rounds through it. I figured it was about due. Brownells is PO's parts source, so I ordered the only PO spring listed (199-000-110) on their web site for the C7.45LDA. I got it today and immediately disassembled the weapon and removed the existing recoil spring. The new spring is about .25 inches shorter than the existing spring. I thought maybe the existing spring is an aftermarket part, but I have no way to be sure. I also thought that it might be longer because it is 'worn-out'. Or maybe I just bought the wrong spring? Any ideas? I'll call Brownells/PO tomorrow. Thanks all. |

Could be that the old owner changed the spring out to a stonger spring?!?! Rule of thumb (when your not beating your wife) is that the spent cases should be ejected about 5'-7' out. Depending what loads your shooting in the pistol will dicate what spring to use. For the most part, have a standard tension spring, and one a step up (should cover almost all the factory loads). As for springs, you may want to favor WolfF springs over the factory units. Para springs tend to go south sooner than some of the major after market suppliers. |

Dano523, did you catch that little tidbit in the beginning of Boondock Saints? If not, rent the movie. It's cool, and also where I stole my sig line. Oh, and Wolff all the way. Para springs are okay, but Wolff and ISMI are simply awesome. You r spring is not longer because it's worn out. Recoil springs get noticeably shorter after initial use, and then they will stay about the same for a long time. If you actually shoot it to the point of completely wearing out the spring, it can be subtantially shorter. The difference might be something as simple as Para changing their spring making steel or diameter. I would not worry about it. Take Dano523's advice and watch where your brass lands. If it's not too close and not too far, you're good to go. |

Okay, now for my stupid question. Did you verify they sent you the right spring? As in, was there a part number on the bag that matches up to the part number on the invoice? Also, there really are mix ups from time to time. I wanted to order a Novak Officer's ACP Lo-Mount sight a few weeks ago. They were out of stock. I ordered a regular Lo-Mount for another gun, and the sight I received was the Officers. It was in the regular Lo-Mount package, so who knows where the wrong sight got there (Brownells or Novaks). I thought about returning it, but I wanted this one anyway. I've had wierder things than that from them before, like when I got a cheap Pachmayr 1911 sight in Bo-Mar bag when I ordered a Bo-Mar. Try explaining that one to the nice folks at Brownells. |
