So my buddy just bought a p14 45 limited and wants to change out the plastic parts. Does anyone know where to get upgraded parts, and do usgi spec 1911 parts work? I am new to paras and this probably a dumb question. Also will a standard usgi slide fit a para lower, or can it be made to fit? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Parts that are unique to the "double stack"

grips
grip screws
mag catch
trigger
magazines
slidelock(sometimes-but a singlestack can be made to work, there is also a different one for the p10 aka warthawg frame)

Heads up, slide release is not proprietary. I've heard it said before but have used various slide releases (including extended models) on several Para P14, P13, and P12 with no issues. Any 1911 slide stop may need a little fitting on any 1911. Not always, but no more often with Paras than single stacks, in my experience.

Yes, you can interchange them with a little fitting if nesessary. Aftermarket pieces will fit as well with a little fitting, but from the factory they come with 3 styles of slidestops depending on the model. If you don't want to take my word for it, call up customer service at 704-930-7600 and ask them if you can get someone to answer the phone.

You mean you've actually gotten someone to answer the phone before?

If you're lucky you can.

I also forgot they make a 9mm slidestop as well for their single stack 9mm guns. It is easily identifible by a 9 in a circle cast into it on the back side.

What did they tell you, more specifically than that? i.e. which won't fit what and why? I think they're quoting their instructions about parts that they produce for specific models, not accurately representing what will or won't fit. All I'm saying is that I have swapped about a dozen brands of standard and extended 1911 (not Para) slide stops between 5 different Paras (4 complete pistols - 3 P14s and 1 P13, plus 1 frame kit) without any issues. Any part may need fitting on any gun, but 1911 slide stops are typically drop ins, and my paras all work that way. I've got a Super Hawg on the way and a Fusion slide stop waiting for it already. I'll let you know how it works out.

Ive gota Wilson Combat Bulletproof slide stop in my 1998 model P14-45.It required a slight amount of fitting at the slide..
In fact about the only Para parts left on my P14-45  is the slide and frame. All the other parts went sounth many years ago due to poor tolerances/quality including the link riding barrel.I cant remember what trigger my gunsmith put in the pistol.

I hear some bad stuff about the small parts newer models, but my late 1980s to late 1990s Para are top notch quality. Never replaced anything but springs, at least out of need. Hopefully any issues they had will be resolved now that they are at their new facility. I have a brand new Super Hawg too, and so far so good. It's worthy of note as an addendum to my earlier sttemnet that while Para wide body slide stops are not proprietary, any part may need some fitting in any 1911. The Wilson extended slide stop I put in my Super Hawg last week needed a bit of fitting to run smoothly, while the Wilson extended slide stop I put in my 20+ year alloy old frame kit dropped right in.

Slidestop is caliber specific for the 1911, PARA Hicap, STI/SV, type of gun.

Why buy anything other than a .45acp...?
