Ah, the CZ-40B.  The lowdown....once upon a time, Colt and CZ dreamed up this cooperation/collaboration project and were going to release a new co-branded pistol, the Colt Z-40.  Obviously, a .40S&W semi-auto, but DAO trigger, CZ-style safety, 1911-style grip.  For some reason (does Colt ever need a reason for doing something stupid?), Colt got cold feet and pulled out of the deal.  A few Colt Z-40s did get produced and are floating around, and they are worth upwards of $700 as not many were produced.

Shortly thereafter, CZ had this design, and decides, what the hell, let's sell what we got.  So they modify the design somewhat; slide is remarked CZ-40B, some changes to the slide here and there, and the trigger is now a double/single action trigger.  Basically, they took the Colt Z-40 they had, and brought it inline with their traditional products.  I heard there were only a couple thousand of the CZ-40Bs produced before they ran out frames.  Incidentally, the CZ-40P is another CZ "we make it yet don't mention it" gun that is a mix of a leftover (but modifed/remarked) CZ-40B slide with the new P-01 frame.  This gun is about $300 (one hell of a deal), but they are rare.  Supposedly CZ will be making a new version of it called the P-04, but it'll cost more.

Anyway, since the 40B wasn't a traditional CZ product, I guess they decided to not continue with them (given the availability of a .40 CZ-75B) and don't really mention it.  I recently purchased a 40B myself, and let me say that "nice gun for $300" BARELY begins to describe it.  I think it totally outclasses and outshoots the .40 Glocks I've messed around with.  The .40 is a snappy cartridge, but the CZ-40B doesn't seem affected by this at all.  The pistol is dead accurate, reliable (so far), and a very natural pointer.  For $300, if you can find one, it's probably the best buy for the money.

(I'm a little biased--I love CZs, and I think they are probably one of the most undervalued and overlooked guns out there.  I'd take a CZ-75B over a Beretta 92FS any day!)

Edit:
As far as pricing goes, the Colt Z-40 DAOs are about $700-800, and unless you are a collector of CZs, are probably not worth it.  The CZ-40B is usually $250-350 and is worth that, regardless of your interest in them.  It's marked on the slide so it's easy to tell.

Certainly worth considering.  How many mags does it come with?  If your dealer does transfers, CDNN had them a month ago for $249.99 without the night sights, one mag, $10 shipping.  Extra mags cost $30 a piece.  Depends on what you think night sights are worth, if it's new/used, plus however many mags it comes with.  Also, if CDNN happens to be out, your gunstore will win the "only game in town" award.

Yeah... the dealer installed the night sights himself... some guy paid for them, and then traded the pistol cuz it was too bulky for ccw... traded on a baby XD... dont know about the mags though... I only looked at it in passing but it was on my mind when I left the shop.
