I was curious from LEOs out there, what the general feeling of LEOs are about private citizens carrying CCW? The LEOs that I have encountered thus far while I was carrying did not seem particulary concerned about my being armed, but I have to admit that those were buddies of mine anyway. |

I have no problem making contact with aimed citizens with CCW's. I would like the CCW holder to inform me at our first contact. That way I'm aware of it. I may watch you a little closer but don't take that the wrong way. Depending on the circumstances, I may take control of the weapon. I've had people carrying weapons with a CCW and not tell me. I'm not real happy if and when I find out by mistake. We immediately get off on the wrong foot. You know I'm armed and I should know your armed. Colt_SBR |

I dont see why I should have to inform you that I'm wearing my pistol, I really dont see that its any of your business unless I've done something to warrant you asking. Its supposed to be concealed and the fact that you dont know I have it shows I'm doing my part. I dont see why we would "get off on the wrong foot" by my not telling you. We would definitly get off on the wrong foot if you tried to "take control of the weapon" for no other reason than you feel the need to. Will you allow me to feel secure too by letting me hold yours while you hold mine? I didnt think so. |
| here in Ohio we have a silly law that states while in a motor vehicle the weapon has to be on you in plain site(not concealed). if it is not on your body it has to be either locked up in the glove box or locked up in a lockable case. i have been talking to a few officers around here and they have been telling me that your ccw is somehow linked to your liscene plates, when an officer pulls you over and runs your plate, he or she autimatically knows if you are a ccw holder or not.hinking.gif |
If we're just BS'ing I don't have a problem with someone not informing me. If I'm conducting an investigation with a possibility of police action (arrest or summons) I want to know if the person is armed. Some people don't take arrests or a summons well. We all should know that. We have the "Right" to bear arms by the U.S. Constitution, under restrictions. We all know the restrictions. We all have to live under restrictions, every day. I hope we don't have to go into them. If you really need to know, read. You receive permission by the state to carry concealed. It's not a Right. A L.E.O. is working as an agent of the state. Laws forbid you from taking a L.E.O.'s weapon. I've had three people that attempted to take my weapon. They didn't gain control of my weapon. They all lived to regret it. They are lucky they lived. We'll leave it at that. As far as the CCW, the state givith and the state takith away. Colt_SBR |

I understand the the way the states convert our rights to privileges by requiring a license. Thats just the way it is and if you want to go through life smoothly, you just deal with it. Not that its right, but like you said, restrictions, but restrictions that only restrict the honest, law abiding people. Its all about control, isnt it? Its also an nice gun registration scheme. I used to think of my carry permit as a "learners permit". It allows you to go about your business while learning how to carry your shooter without to much fear of repercussions if you screw up. But if and when the state decides to revoke your "privileges", your comfortable enough to continue as necessary without giving yourself away. Lets hope it never comes to that. If it does, then I guess you will be asking everyone you talk to. I understand where your coming from as far as the arrest or summons point. I would think you would automatically assume they were armed until proved otherwise if that were the case. I can also see your wanting to disarm them at that point too, and with good reason. I just took your comment the wrong way. |

i don't have a problem with a citizen taking advantage of their rights. i know i can't be everywhere at once and i would rather respond to a woman who shot a rapist than a woman who was raped. With a traffic stop If i ask if there are any weapons or drugs in the car, then i expect to be informed by the CCW holder with his hands on the wheel/dash. I'm not bothered if the citizen doesn't hand me to the CCW license with their ID. You're a law abiding citizen so we're good. JMO J |
I believe the restrictions are on all of us. If the criminals don't follow them they pay. At least that's the way the system is suppose to work. Sometimes the system works. I've actually seen it work.
I hope it doesn't come to that.
I try to always be aware of my surroundings. Now a days, we all should be.
No offence taken. Colt_SBR |
I would tell an officer im armed if i though there was a need for it,in TN if it was a traffic stop and plates were ran the leo would know.i understand that if an officer see's a gun and doesnt know your liscened to carry he will assume the worst, especially if he sees a pistol grip sticking out from under your car seat or a bulge under your shirt. |
