| What are some good choices for a subcomp in 40 cal for an individual with large hands? |
| I have average size hands and get on fine with my Glock 27 with +2 magazine extensions. IMHO, however, the Glock 27 is a tad bulky for pocket carry, so I carry mine in a belt holster. For pocket carry I prefer my Kahr MK40... it is a bit more lively to shoot, but nothing an experienced pistol shooter can't handle. |
| You're probably going to have a hard time finding something with large hands depending on how large they are. The G27 is a great subcompact but the M&Pc will probably fit you better. However it's sized in between a G27 and G23/19. You could always get mag extentions but that kind of defeats the purpose of getting a subcompact. |
Really like my Glock 27. I had a small issue with a case head separation but it only required a visit to Glock and a new mag release to get the gun working again. Great platform - very accurate, takes fullsize mags for reloads, will shoot 9mm with a barrel swap, and with a Crossbreed Supertuck, it's small enough to disappear under a t-shirt and blue jeans on my 5'10" 165lb frame. Oh, and recoil/follow up shots aren't bad if you practice like you should.
I'll be picking up a 19 and a 23 when funds allow, but this is going to remain my primary carry piece. |
| My favorite, and my personal carry gun, is a S&W M&P 40c. That being said, you would also be well served by a Glock, Springfield Arms, or a Kahr. The bottom line is to try them out yourself and see what fits you better. How important is size compared to shooter comfort for you? Find a gun that fits your hand, with a compromise between gun size, magazine capacity, and concealability that you can accept, and you will find your gun. I do not believe there is one gun out there that fits everyone; find what works for you. |

I like my XD 40 SC. I bought a couple of the Pierce (sp?) grip extensions for the extra mags. Not to mention you can get the 12+1 mag that adds a little more length to the grip. I think that would be a good option. Xdguys sell a 9mm conversion barrel too. |
| XD Subcompact. If the grip is to small get a Pearce and chop off some of the extension thats not needed but still gives your pinky a place to sit. I did this but learned that I could still fire well with no extension and prefer to have the stock mag while carrying in states that allow it to make it as compact as possible. |

I'm just going to say Glock 27...
While there are others, the G27 fits my needs well: 9+1 with a extra 10rnd mag, reliable as hell, easy to use... The lack of pinky placement actually makes the G27 a great shooter as the back of the grip fits very nicely in the meat of your palm/thumb area... |
