I'm thinking about getting my first 1911. I like the looks and features of DW's Major Aussie. Does anyone have one? If so, how would you rate the following on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best. 1. Reliability 2. Accuracy 3. Fit and Finish 4. Trigger 5. Weight Thanks in advance for all your help. |

I have personal experience with three DW 1911 pistols. Two Pointman Minors and one higher end pistol if I remember corectly it was a Major, a stainless gun wih adjustable sights. The two Minors were bought from a local dealer for around $475. They both were very tightly fitted and everything was done correctly from the factory. One was reliable out of the box and the other took about 100 rounds to become reliable. One had a good creep free trigger with about a 4lb pull. The other had some creep and I took care of that. The internal parts seemed to be high quality. The higher end stainless was one of the best out of the box factory 1911 pistols I ever seen. It had a perfect trigger that was as good as some smiths could do and the fit and finish of this pistol was very close to a Wilson or a Les Bher. Everything that should be polished was like a mirror. There was a lot of hand fitting and personal hand work involved in producing this pistol. This gun shot very well and had no malfunctions in the 100 or so rounds I fired through it. If I remember correctly this pistol was bought from a local dealer slightly used for $650. |
No they "tear me up" because I always tell it like it is no matter who it offends. I have never been "anti 1911". I was shooting and gunsmithing the 1911long before a lot of these indoor range experts were born. I have just always stated the well known fact known by all experienced shooters that on average modern designs are more reliable than the 1911 and some of them tend to get their panties in a bunch because of this. |
