So a friend of mine wanted a handgun. Took him to the local firearm store and he seen the $175 price tag and said Ill take it. He bought the 40 cal. I tried to talk him out of it but he said guns cost to much.
We went to the local range. He shot 50 rounds and out of them 8 jammed. The next day he shot 50 more and 13 jammed. Ill keep posting his shooting sessions so we can all see how much of a POS these are. as of 3/1/2010- 100rds / 21jams |

Tell him to send it back. Everyone bashes Hi Point, but supposedly they have one of the best warranties in the business. Lifetime warranty and they'll fix almost anything. Most of the Hi Point complaints you see are from people who have never owned one... ![]() I agree, everyone says they are great when it comes to warranty work. |

Probably because every single owner has experienced problems and sent their pistols in for repair. |
| That's more failures than I've had in ... uh jeez. 12, 13 years? Something like that. Granted, it hasn't seen the use that my 1911's have, but it's between 500-1000 somewhere. Also a hell of a lot lighter load, I'm not sure that design is really meant for .40, but maybe they've updated it a bit since I got the .380. |

Should have shown him this picture: http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii180/ArmedSuspect/hipoint/IMGA02591.jpg Want me to post a blown up glock picture, or do you want to handle that one also? |

Rossi revolvers are prob the only gun in the price range of the HP that I would ever shoot. |

Why do so many people over look surplus guns when looking for decent guns on a budget? Your friend could have picked up a Radom P64 from AIM for $170, which will actually work. But his was new. Seriously, the milsurps are milspec. They work and are well made pistols. I'm sorry, hi point may make a decent carbine, but their pistols suck. |

He could have got a Ruger P89, they are cheap, and I have never had an issue with mine. +1 While not a huge Ruger fan, I find Hi-Points plain disgusting. Anybody care to show a picture of a Ruger centerfire semi-auto handgun that failed because of poor manufacturing? |

I had a Hi-Point 40cal and it was by far one the of best shooting guns I have ever owned. The 9mm's have a problem if you are using Winchester White Box, I have been told by gun store owners and gun owners alike. The 40cal carbine I had was crap... sent it back 3-4 times and still busted. On the other hand the 9mm carbine was good times and functioned fine with good ammo.
Going back to the price vs. function... I had a Taurus 1911AT that jammed more than your buddy's HP. I would say for less expensive autoloaders I would look at the Ruger's or Taurus handguns. |

You know the carbine is just the pistol with a long barrel and a shroud over the slide and a stock attached right? |
