I hadn't handled one until last weekend at a gun show. The first thing I noticed was the weight of this thing. I figured it would have very little recoil. I was standing there wondering what I would do with a gun like that. Anybody have first hand experience? Are they reliable? What's a good application for this gun? Does it do some things better than a regular handgun? Are they worth the $388 the dealer was asking? |

Having had at least 3 of 'em perhaps I can comment. Only one out of three were very accurate. They tend not to like reloads, even some factory ammo had problems. On one, the mag would fall out at random. Other than a perceived "cool factor", not as a serious shooter, they are generally best avoided, IMO. The post ban model was called the AB-10 and I think the company is out of business. The last one I purchased was around $150, some time ago. Sometimes refered to as a "poor man's Uzi", there is no comparison. |

No way in heck are they supposed to be accurate! And $388 for one? I'd say no way. I've fired a friends, that wasn't at all accurate past 10 yards, but it gobbled up ammo without a burp. And these guns usually take pretty hard kicking +p stuff to cycle reliably. Older tec-9's are usually better reliability wise, otherwise any newer ones I'd stay away from. Oh, and recoil is pretty tame because of the weight. It was easy to dump 33 rounds like THAT! ![]() |

first off the post ban tec 9 is a POS The pre ban model 90 % of the time runs great and eats well. Asking a gun like a tec 9 to be accurate is like asking a fat lady if she is going to finish that. Do you guys think a Mac11 is made for distance? Guns like that are often refered to as "elevator " guns. Elevator door opens , you fire into it.Accuracy by volume. If you bought a new car for 9 grand, don't to get in it and expect wood trim and leather seats people. Keep things in perspective. ![]() J |

I had a Kimel AP-9, which was a better constructed Tec-9 clone. It was fairly reliable and fairly accurate, but these things just don't make any sense in semi-automatic. In the end I sold it, and my Steyr SPP later, when I realized there was nothing they could do that a doublestack handgun like the Glock 17 or Beretta 92 couldn't do better. |
