curious, are .40 s&w sigma series pistols any good? just wondering because i was shopping for a pistol, told the guy i was on a budget and he recommended it. i ask because i thought it looked pretty cool but i don't know anything about this gun other than my dealer said it's da only. it was priced at $275, which is about how much my mark II was! also, i'm leaning towards a usp, they had one used for $525. is that a good deal? everything looked okay, dealer is reliable and pretty fair. if i hear good things i'm going to get it tomorrow. thanks for helping, i appreciate it.

Run don't walk away from that pistol. I got stuck with two of em' and ended up selling them for $150 bucks each. These are "free" pistols, when a S&W dealer orders 5 regular guns Smith throws in a Sigma. I've heard that they've had problems with the trigger system and you'll never, ever get out of the gun what you put into it. Take my word for it, it's furstrating to spend money on something then not even get half of  what you've got into it back out.  If you want a Glock, spend the extra money and get a Glock.

This is the worst thing S&W ever made that I am aware of.

For $275 there are a few MUCH better choices.

A used Ruger for one.

The Steyr can now be bought for about that now. They are fine pistols that are very accurate and reliable.

Just don't carry one with a loaded chamber.

I always wonder why I am a Handgun Mod.

Why?

Because my main, trusted, and 'saved-my-ass-from-a-charging-hog' gun is a S&W Sigma SW40C.

Yup.

Mine only likes 135 grain Federal Hydra-shocks.  It eats them like candy.  If you give it a truncated cone (like 95%) of the .40 caliber bullets, it chokes, gags and jams.  The 135 grain FHSs are rounded hollow points.

I like mine, with ammo it likes, and I have depended upon it more than once to save my ass.

I have never been able to get MORE out of my guns than I put into them> Pray tell me where I can cash into this action?
Yes, my Sigma front site[cock-eyed-when heated-up] does suck.

I can't imagion why a company like Smith & Wesson that produces such great revolvers and the SW1911 would have such a POS like a Sigma on it's product list.  Even the name "Sigma" sucks.  Like TNFrank said, run, don't walk away.  It is a POS!!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people bad mouth the sigma. I shoot one all the time with no problems at all. As a matter of fact i would much rather have the sigma than any ruger auto any day of the week and twice on sunday. Yes its a copy of a glock. No i dont believe for a minute that its as well built as a glock but its more than adequate, especially for somebody on a budget. I also suspect the negative opionions expressed on here about the sigmas are straight from the same lounge chair tacticians that promote rugers so heavily. Undoubtably there will be flames directed back toward me and my name will forever be cursed for the above comments but quite honestly I dont care as i have been in harms way unlike so many wanabes in here.

You shoot ONE all the time with no problems.

YOUR pistol apparently is a good one. That does not really mean ALL of them are like yours.

The Sigma takes much more of a beating on resale than even the "good" S&W autos, which go new for about $700 and fetch half that used.

Its biggest problem, as far as I'm concerned, is the absolutely horrible trigger.  The one I shot (a service pistol issued to university police) functioned well enough and was about as accurate as you could expect from a gun that had a trigger pull comparable to snapping a one inch thick green twig in half.

It felt OK, better than the Glock, and its controls are ergonomically OK.   But there is no way I'd ever buy one unless I could get it for under $200, and even then I wouldn't be interested in keeping or shooting it.

The price on the USP is fair, offer him $500 and see if he takes it.  USPs have somehow gotten tremendously overpriced in the past three or four years.

Don't know a thing about the sigma.  So I won't bad mouth it.  But I've got a USP so I'll second the USP.  Great gun.  Make sure it fit's your hand, and if it does, buy it.  And I'll second the "offer him 500" for it.  It can't hurt, he won't raise the price on you.

I wish my HK had a better trigger, but match units are available to slick it up a bit.

Around here they are still in the 6-700's. They have always been high though.  I guess HK decided to jack up the price of their USP (which should be around $4-500) because people were perceiving that the SIGs must be better because they cost more.

It's not just Sig, all guns have gone up in price. I was interested in the new Taurus 45 ACP Tracker Revolver with the 2' bbl. to use as a carry gun, I thought it'd run $350 or there abouts, Right, try $440 out the door. No way I'd pay that much for a revolver let alone a Taurus. It's crazy but as long as people are willing to pay it the price will keep going up, just like gas prices.
