For those of you wanting a 1911 in .357 Magnum, the Coonan Model B will be back.  As seen at the SHOT show.  Seems I'll get a replacement for my two I let go.

I didn't realize there was still any kind of demand for these, what with 9x21 and 9x23 1911s out there.

9x21, 9x23 and 9x25 all shoot a bullet designed to function at 9x19 velocity, which means it will probably fail the at higher velocity those other rounds are capable of.

On the other hand .357 magnum has an assortment of bullets all designed to work at magnum velocity.  Unfortunately, none of them are really designed to feed in a semi auto pistol.  And that's not even taking into account the problems of stacking a rimmed cartridge.

If you want magnum performance out of a semi auto pistol, I'd pick a 10mm.

The logo on the stocks looks like the ARFCOM BFL.

Neat gun, though. Didn't the Army ACU use a .38SPL wadcutter 1911, too?

I've owned two Model B's and never had a realiable problem.  Gun would feed empty 38 Special cases when fed thru the magazine when cycled by hand.  Another friend of mine owned three of them and didn't have any issued either.  Worst part is I sold off my last 6 magazines that I was saving!

Very true...

With the Bren Ten coming back, it is neat that this is also making a reappearance. But I personally never been a fan of the .357 Magnum... I like the .44 more.

How does this thing work with 158 and 180 grain bullets?

On first glance I thought this was about the loser out of work because of whining  gonad o'brien

Frame would fit the 7.62 Tok.  Just sayin'.

Never had a problem with the 158s and few 170/180s that I fired through mine.  Mine were mainly feed a diet of 125 JHPs and 158 LSWC.

Ah yes The COONAN... Long out of production but built to last more than a lifetime.

I am close friends with some who are involved with the resurrection, and it will be some time before that happens. But I'm holding out hope.

However... It's still one of, if not my favorite pistol. I really regret selling off several that I've owned back in the day.

It's 8 (or 9 with modded mag) total round capacity, stainless steel 1911 styled (aprox 10% larger overall) that I have owned many of over 25 years, and still have my last one. I have formerly competed with them for years (in the distant past), hunted with them, plinked, and home defense is a given. Concealing one is not easy, but with the 'right clothing' I have done it.

The standard .357 magnum out of the gun doesn't have the cyl gap of a revolver, so shooting anywhere from 110 to 180 grain bullets gives 'much' greater performance than a revolver, and it shoots very flat. The second most accurate pistol I own next to my SA OMEGA 10mm.

Here's a pic of some standard configs they were offered in:

Here's me back in 1986? (or so) at a friends cabin. He had a nice 35mm camera that caught the recoil and muzzle flash. I was 25 years old and only 155 lbs. compared to 215 lbs now (give or take a bit) so concealing it would be easier now.  :)  I assume by the muzzle flash I was shooting some federal 125 JHP which the gun was quite fond of as it sent the bullets down range just under 2000 fps. No compensators back then for me yet.
