I need to install night sights on several different make/model of pistols.

I'd rather not spend over $100, but at the same time, I want to get a tool that will work well for HKs, 1911s, XDs, Glocks and others without damaging the slide or the sights themselves.

Looking at Brownells, they have several different ones available.

Anyone have any recommendations besides what they have at Brownells?

Thanks!

That was my first plan, but I have read "just enough" reports of people who busted a tritium vial while installing with that method that I don't want to take any chances if I can get the right tool for the job for a great price.
I have a enough pistols between my own gear and some local friends that will make it easier to justify an investment.

Looking for the best deal for a quality universal tool.

i looked up the reviews on midwayusa.com and read this
Ralph Pate of Stillwater, OKDate posted: 12/11/2009You really have to take your time and constantly check alignment. I used a hair dryer to soften up the loctite and it worked fine. Sure beats a hammer and punch, though I did break the small tip on XD40 #3.

Date posted: 8/19/2009I purchased this product mainly for my XD and M&P sights. On the XD, didn't have any problems. The sights were tight but after a bit, they came off and installed the new ones. On the M&P 9P, the rear sight was tight but came out eventually. The front sight was not that lucky. I cracked the small square tip and the other ones will not fit that dovetail. Had to pound it out with a hammer/punch. I tried all the tricks (oil, freezer, etc) but that front sight is pressed in pretty hard. I called B&J, they were GREAT! They are sending me more tips FREE OF CHARGE - not even a shipping charge. This is the kind of company we all need to support. Thanks B&J and Midway!

4 stars Kent Christen of Shiloh, ILDate posted: 8/25/2007My review is mixed on this tool, as I've only attempted to use it on one firearm thus far. I bought this tool to replace the sights on my Springfield XD45. I didn't realize that: 1) Springfield uses a hydraulic press to force a somewhat oversize sight into the dovetail on the slide; 2) the "stepped/terraced" feature of the slide would make the tool not grip the slide properly (fixed by using a couple of paint stirring sticks); 3) the angled side of the sight on the rear of the XD would make it impossible for the tool to "square up" to the sight. When I first tried to use this tool, the post snapped, rendering it useless. I called B&J Machine (Google it and you'll get their number) about it, and they shipped me a new post at no charge. They have OUTSTANDING customer service. When I explained the problem I had had, they told me about how Springfield installs their sights. Thus, I ended up using a LOT of penetrating oil, a drift, and a large hammer. I'm in the middle of building a 1911, so when I install the Dawson's I'm going to use in that project, I imagine that this tool will come in handy. My only other gripe is that the instruction sheet is kind of thin, doesn't really do a very good job of explaining use of the tool. The only design change I'd make would be to put a couple of metal flanges on either side or either end, so there's something to clamp it onto a bench

Jon Kassaw of Carthage, TXDate posted: 12/3/2008This product is based on pretty sound principle, but be warned that if you are trying to adjust an XD or other pistol in which the slide flares at the bottom, the vice action will NOT grip uniformly and the entire slide will cant in the vice as you apply pressure to the sight to be moved. The end result will be something bent if you try and force it. As long as your pistol has a straight profile on the sides of the slide it should work quite well.

see XD sites really are a bitch to remove!  damn you springfield armory...

I couldn't wait. Wound up installing 5 sets of sights (3 TFO, 2 Mepro) with a brass punch and light hammer.
No problems, of course I didn't have any XDs in this round ;-)
