If you were in a ban state and liked a gun that normally held 15 rounds and was made after the ban, limiting you to 10 round mags, would you still buy it? Such as HK P30L or M&P9. I find myself always going for the guns that have prebans available but there are some great guns that don't have pre-bans available. Either that or I go with 1911s or look at other guns in .45.
I'd like an HK or Smith in 9mm but can't get over the 5 round loss. Maybe 1 or 2 but not 5. So now I'm looking at the HK45 and M&P45 but .45 ammo is really expensive. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

if you were to get it in 9mm...find out if the 40S&W mags work reliably. I use 10rd 40 S&W mags in my USPc and they feed/function 100% reliably and fit 13rds in them. Infact it actually holds the round closer to the bore so I've had better luck with them than my 13rd 9mm mags...go figure. I've toyed with the idea of buying 40S&W high caps to get 15rds in a mag but they cost like $35-45 a mag so it's cheaper just to get the 10rd mags |

Well, HKs are great pistols. I've owned quite a few. But, in my opinion, I don't think you get anything more for the additional cost of the HK over the M&P. It's expensive and tough to find replacement parts for HK––I don't know that I'd trust myself to detail strip an HK, if necessary.
I've also owned M&Ps and they too are terrific pistols. It's no secret on these forums that I am a huge Glock fan, but that's for 9mms. I think the M&P series might be the best polymer framed pistols offered in .45 currently. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Have you gone out and handled or shot any of the preban guns yet? If they work well for you, then problem solved. That said, I'd rather have 10+1 in a gun I like and shoot well than one that I didn't but had higher capacity. I'd also still prefer 10 rounds of 9mm over 10 rounds of .45 ACP if I didn't like the price or the way it handled or just didn't shoot it as well. So for me, I'd get the P30 or the M&P. The P30 is the only gun I've ever fired and said, "wow, this is the gun for me." It fit me like it was made for me. The M&P is close behind and wins in other departments like price, options (compact or fullsize, crimson trace grips, etc.) and is second only to the P30 in terms of ergonomics. I haven't handled either of the 45s, but they're likely pretty similar to the 9mm brothers other than being a little larger. Quoted:

I too use 10rnd .40 to hold additional 9mm, but from what I've been told a standard capacity .40 mag does not hold any more 9mm than a standard capacity 9mm mag. Odd, considering the 10's do. |

XD-40 mags work great as 14 round 9mm mags. That raises an interesting question. If those "10 round" .40 magazines actually hold 14 rounds of 9mm and for some reason, self defense shooting etc., law enforcement becomes aware that they are being used as high caps; wouldn't they be considered hi caps and in violation of the law in states that ban them regardless of what they say on the floor plate ? |

When the ban was in effect that is how Illinois L.E. interpeted it. A pre-ban mag was fine and any magazine made post ban loaded with more than ten rounds was a violation regardless if the magazine was made for another caliber weapon. |

Quoted: I've been told that it bends the feed lips over time Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile so will using a mag for the same caliber....feed lip spread is inevitable with time. I don't worry about it to much because I bought the 40's for range use to save the wear and tear on my 13rd 9mm mags. Yeah I've seen it done, they hold 15rds. You can also use standard USP mags but they stick out a little bit...a la G17 mag in a G19 |

Are 10rd 9mm mags available for the P30? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Yes, sir. The P30 will also be available in .40 S&W by the end of this month. The 9mm and .40 will have a manual safety version out sometime first or second quarter of 2010 from what I remember. Quoted:
