G-36 if you wanna stay Glock or Kimber ultra carry (pre II)  Though I like Glocks I don't like the 36 and the Kimber would be my #1 choice. Most 45's are going to be bulky  and Avoid the Taurus 145.

If you are considering the Kimber, do yourself a favor and look at the Colt Defender or New Agent, too. I've been quite happy with my New Agent, and it was less expensive than the Kimber offerings that day.

Perhaps also consider the M&P45 compact.

Big +1 on the M&P45c. I currently have a full-size and a compact .40 M&P that are great! The 45c would definitely be my choice for a sub-compact .45, the 4" barrel gives a good sight radius and is accurate along with making the gun handle very well.

If you like your 21 you could always give the Glock 30 a shot. Use the same spare parts, mags, and ammo for the most part.

While I have Colt's, Glocks, CZ's and others.....my most carried .45 is currently a Kahr PM45. Amazingly accurate for such a small handgun. I previously carried my Officers Model for nearly 30 years and the PM45 is like a feather compared to most of my previous carry guns. Also look at the CW45 if you don't want to spend as much money. Give the Kahr a good break-in and it won't let you down.

Colt Defender was the best all around conpact .45 I ever owned. Never missed a shot and it just felt right in the hand. I replaced the monkey grips with thin double diamonds. Very accurate for a 3" also.

Glock models 30SF or 36 both are great pistols.  I carry a G30SF in the winter because it is a little large with me being skinny it prints bad in summer cloths.

If you don't like the baby glocks look at Smith & Wesson's M&P.

USPc 45 or HK45c

I havent shot either but they are options. They arent really subcompact but would be quite a bit smaller.

Another vote for Khar PM45

Not too Glocky.  REALLY small.  Feeds it all.

Don't overlook the 3rd gen S&W 45 autos.  They're thin, light, well made and extremely reliable.  They come in full size, compact and sub compact sizes and in DA and DAO.  Here's my 4553 TSW, which has become my favorite carry gun.  It's got a DAO trigger, that's short, smooth and light.  It feeds anything and it's very easy to put shot after shot in the black.
