hey, I just saw a nice Beretta 92 in the case at my local fun shop.

My question is this, I need a nice range gun.  No, No, not personal protection, not CC or a home defender, just your basic range 9 mm for a more than casual target shooter.  NOT IPSC or any serious venue.

The guy next to me in the shop says the 92 is really capable of just combat accuracy.

Is this true?  I thought they, as a group, were a little better than that.  I have seen reports of both good and bad accuracy, many of the latter are coming from guys who really cant shoot!  I saw Nutnfancy's review and it was kinda inconclusive.  He seems to do all his shooting at 7 yds anyway, which to me, shows little and hides much.  ( he is good, knowledgeable reviewer though)

So, your thoughts on the 92????/

thanks

I have an Italian 92F and a 92FS. Both are very accurate pistols.

They would be even more accurate if I was a better shot.

IMO, the guy at the shop is mistaken. The 92FS is a very accurate pistol.

To answer your question, for a range gun only, I believe the 92FS is one of the best choices in 9mm. It is so easy to shoot, so smooth and light recoiling. It is an absolute joy to shoot. A 92FS would be a great range pistol.

OK, thanks for the advice!  any real, noticeable difference between Berettta 92 and the Taurus PT92, other than price?  thanks again

The Taurus has a frame mounted manual safety whereas the Beretta has a slide mounted decocker. A lot of people, myself included, prefer the frame mounted safety of the Taurus...but  Taurus doesn't have the greatest reputation and their customer service SUCKS.

Did the guy at the shop have brown eyes because he's full of shit. 92FS's and M9's are very accurate pistols. There very easy to tune the trigger a bit also with changing out the hammer spring and even more by changing out the trigger spring too. Wolff makes various pound weights. If you want a little more range fun too, than you can also add on a CX4 and run the same mags.

This pic was right below my CX4/92FS pic on my photobucket so I thought I'd add it in for texture.
